If they are talking about a 7-10 year deal , I wonder how they will plan for the 20th team and 10th game ? They should commit to a year at least when the deal is final … hopefully they are bullish ..how about 2030? That might seem a little quick on the back of Perth and PNG , but you would think NZ2 or Brisbane 3 will be easier than those 2

Looks like seven year deal like the afl

So the number needs to be 5 billion if they are including Monday night football in that and potentially Foxtel being allowed to show origin / grand finals with fta

10 years is too long they don’t need that much security

Seven years puts them a few years after af so they can use them as a benchmark again next like now
yea,
that's where that 5 billion amount came from , that'd be for 7 years. Positions them perfectly going forward.
May incorporate the 10th club game in the latter life of that deal too with the NRL having many viable options
NZ2, SEQLD4 the front runners

I think they will yes
tell DAZN , you'll get a 10th game in that deal

But what happens if the r360 circus gets off the ground and still functioning? That will make it harder for 20th team to come in at 2030. Maybe a few years later. Or the beginning of the next rights cycle.

If the NRL is looking at a seven year deal, then the value of it per year should be higher, especially if the agreement with broadcasters is longer in duration.

The value to a FTA and PTA provider of an NZ or QLD team entering part way through the broadcast deal would be vastly different so you would assume the amount offered would have a claw back or increase clause depending if and where a 20th team is introduced during the term of the contract.

I don’t see how decisions made this year for the TV deal can be influenced by whether 360 gets up and running in 2028 or not … Im not really concerned about them tbh … and there might be more Union players heading to the NRL than vice versa with the increased salary cap expected

The near doubling of the cap . & near doubling of wages for NRL players , plus no tax at all for PNG Chiefs players will see the NRL in good shape to combat crap360 if in the highly unlikely event it gets off the ground

If nrl made the salary cap 20 to 22 million they could turn the tables and raid union

With their World Cup here in 2027 it would be an audition for nrl clubs

continue to raid their nurseries , get our development officers out to their gala days , esp in NZ & give their parents a prospectus to show them the potential pathway & how lucrative it could be.

Cut the legs out from under these toffee nosed wankers

True but imagine league signed 40 union “stars”

You would get Union fans around the world buying nrl subscriptions

And what if they purchase the Super League which looks like definitely happening, how`s that fit into the business model. And then the whole question of conferences that 20 teams would allow, provide for more finals and a superbowl type GF.
The possibilities are mind-blowing.

The conference thing is a bit overblown …. With 20 teams you are probably just gunna play every one once …with a couple of extra games chucked in …might have a top 10 finals

Not sure if they have 40 stars, a half dozen of their biggest names would attract a few eyeballs though.
The more time goes by, the more I begin to Wonder how many if their very best would actually crack first grade..?
It's not an easier transition and hard to identify who would even be capable of that transition.
It's rarer than I first thought.
The more junior academies a systems we pump money into to get them over at a young age the better.

Perhaps the most interesting attendees are those with whom V’landys and Abdo will do business in coming months to secure the next broadcast deal once the current one ends in 2027. They will be in V’landys’ chairman’s room – a large, ground-level bar at Allegiant Stadium – on Saturday: Laing and Nine boss Matt Stanton, Seven sports boss Chris Jones, Paramount’s new president of international and global content distribution, Kevin MacLellan, as well as representatives from Amazon and DAZN.
Just how much the NRL will get is anyone’s guess. Some have speculated as much a $5bn over five years. Privately, the NRL is talking up a good game, but that might be beyond its reach

Free to air rights are so cheap

Origin is worth 50 million so they are paying just over 100 million for the nrl comp Including finals

Seven would need to be 70 million for origin and Monday night footy

I think if seven do start off with Monday night footy down the track they could bid for the lot and punt the afl which is underperforming

Nines coverage will never improve they are useless at covering league
Not even that, the current deal is $115mill cash. They’re paying somewhere around $65-85mill for 3 nrl games and finals.
