Only 40% of the deal is signed you nitwit...:roll:

Go have a lie down.

Not just media deal income, across the board the AFL income is significantly higher than the NRL's, they can afford their 4 expansion teams and still have a shed load more money than the NRL will have in 2017. To say that somehow their expansion plans have put them behind the NRL in spending capacity is simply untrue. On top of that they have a system of ticket taxes for wealthy clubs that also assists costs in propping up struggling clubs.

Lessar they have 4 non heartland expansion clubs, and two clubs in their major capital city heartlands outside Melbourne. We are not in the same ball park of expansion and looking ever more unlikely we will make up ground anytime soon.

We've seen the NRL income double in last few years, can you say it has had a significant growth or improvement impact on the game? Hopefully it will double again in 2017 onwards and hopefully we will see more bang for our buck this time.

Around $35mill a year. Still leaves them with an extra $165mill a year over NRL (and 4 expansion teams!!)

Mate just to harp on about this once more.

Its one year of a 6 year deal which brings them into line with the NRL.

I dont understand what sort of inroads they can make in 1 year, could you please tell us what sort of doomsday scenario you have going on in your mind that you would even bring this up. :-k

They have always had extra money 1 year earlier than the NRL. :?

I think your making a mountain out of a Mole hill tbh.

Furthermore the NRL always gets a large sum payment in the first year of the Deal to counteract that anyways.

They have money for 4 expansion teams but where are they going to put them?
Tasmania and Darwin are the only 2 places I can think of that would love an afl team, but neither have the population to make it successful.
They already have 2 expansion clubs leaking money where would they put 4 more?
New Zealand? The wellington deal was a disaster
Queensland? Already showed their not interested in afl
Newcastle or wollongong? Nrl heart lands
Afl has already peaked in this country, theirs no more room to grow

Considering the AFL has lost 200million over 5 years for GCS and GWS, that is 100million per team over the life of the TV deal.

So what he is saying is the AFL can afford to loose not only 200million for GWS and GCS but afford to loose another 400million bringing the total the AFL would loose on those teams over 5 years to 600million.

Bloody hell i know the AFL signed a good deal but FFS they cant afford to loose 600million surely.

Sounds a little nutty to me, the NRL wanted all games live and an extra game on FTA, why would they then turn around and scrap all that?

A deal starting next year would mean the current 5 year deal would be terminated, with both networks likely having to pay more for the remaining 2 years of current deal then they otherwise would.

If this were to happen it would either be, an admission that Smith stuffed up negotiations and had to backtrack significantly, or Smith played it this way and it would be the most intricate negotiation strategy in history of Australian TV.

This is still likely to happen

I'm talking about the 4 expansion teams they have, not 4 more lol.
Read the thread people! Someone was suggesting it doesn't matter if NRL get less money as afl are Using all their extra money To fund Suns and gws. Simply pointing out that isnt the case, even after funding 4 current expansion clubs they still have more more money than the NRL unless it produces some incredible pay tv deal that takes them Well over 2 billion but somehow I doubt it. Don't shoot the messenger, simply pointing out some facts.

What's your story then, you talk like you're in the know.
You earlier said that a deal would be done by the end of the month, that was early last month.

not only that but he claimed it wouldn't be the deal that he now says is likely to happen

the bloke is some nuffy who wouldn't know shit

The AFL's Tv deal is actually 2.08billion over 5 years.

Now that 6th year pushes the deal upto 2.5billion.

That 6th year is actually worth more than the previous 5 years so in essence the AFL signed a 2billion dollar 5 year deal.

The NRL will sign a 2billion+ deal once all the Digital/NZ/Pay Tv is factored in.

Whats all the fuss about...:lol::lol:
