Why do people cal it gridiron??

As I understand it, an American Football field is called a gridiron, that's where the informal name for the sport comes from.

WTF ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT?

What's the point of this question?

To the quiz: Dave Casper played 6 and a half years with Raiders, from 1974-1980. He was traded to the Houston Oilers where he was re-united with ex-Raiders QB Kenny the Snake Stabler. He played again with the Raiders in 1984 before retiring.

Casper was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame last summer.

Assuming I'm right (because I looked it up), name another tight end in the HOF. There aren't many.

Mike Ditka 1961-1972
John Mackey 1963-1972
Jackie Smith 1963-1978
Ozzie Newsome 1978-1990
Kellen Winslow 1979-1987

Good work Gav. You're right about the term gridiron too - though you don't hear it much here anymore. It's kind of an old fashioned term, like calling the ball a pigskin.

Without looking, I'm surprised there aren't more. I'd guess Lou (the Toe) Groza of the Cleveland Browns, but surely George Blanda, who was a quarterback and field goal kicker, is in there.

Joe Blanda is there as a QB and PK, he's included in the Quarterback section.

This guy, presumably, is in there solely for his place kicking and is the only one in that section.

Righto, Gav.

No offense, but I find trivia hard to do over the net, because people can always look up the answer. It's not usually a test of memory, which is what I like about "live" trivia.

Good point Steve, but other types of quizzes are also changed to some degree by the internet, perhaps not as much as trivia questions though.

If this were a live NFL trivia game I wouldn't have a clue.

chiefs, colts, browns, bengals,oilers,bills????

Not the Colts and Browns - they were originally NFL teams, who joined the AFC when the 2 leagues merged, along with the Steelers. (The former AFL teams along with the 3 NFL teams became the AFC, while the rest of the old NFL stayed in the NFC.)

The Chiefs have won a Super Bowl, the 4th one, over the Vikings.

Bengals, Oilers (now Titans) and Bills are correct. The Bengals were an AFL expansion team, as were the Dolphins.

AFL teams that have won 1 or more SB's are Raiders, Chiefs, Jets, Dolphins, Broncos, and Patriots.

That leaves 1 more AFL team that has never won a Super Bowl. This team has appeared in one but lost badly.
