I know NZRL dont have much money but they need to step up to the plate now! We are losing to many good players to rugby..why because we only have National Comp that runs for 8 weeks!!

Here are the changes that I believe need to be done!

Increase teams to:
Auckland x2
Counties,
Northland,
Waikato,
Manawatu/Taranaki
Hawkes Bay/Gisborne,
Wellington,
Canterbury,
Otago/Southland

10 teams play each other once, before finals. Teams like West Coast, Bay Of Plenty, Coastlines, Tasman can challange the last team every year for a place in next years comp.

We need major improvement on this, I would also change the name to Stacey Jones Junior Competition.

It would be U18's as well.

What are your guys thoughts or Ideas?

Losing to many good players to rugby.........did you know you don't even have to play league to get in a Auckland side know a couple of guys from this year who are refusing to play league but still manage to get in these sides. In auckland its all who you know not how good you are. I still think to keep these kids you need a Jersey or Prem team

League will continue with problems ( lack of numbers and quality players ) until we establish League competions through out our schools - our adminstrators over the years lacked professional ability - still do

I like the idea of the ten team National comp

I like the 10 team proposal as well and I think that the NZRL need to implement such competitions at U18 and U20 level that would lead into the Bartercard Cup and ultimately the best going onto play in the NRL and with the Kiwis. The Australians have shown for a long time that the development of juniors is essential in maintaining their number 1 status in international rugby league. Harold Matthews (U16), SG Ball (U18) and Jersey Flegg (U20) provide players with a higher level of rugby league, up from just their domestic club competitions. The NZRL might also look to introduce the U16's to the 10 team national comp to follow Australian guidelines, tried, tested and proven to be the best in the world.

Im not for the 10 team NJC comp as a lot of these players are better off playing Fox or Batercard anyway, Im with Accy Stanley on this one - the only thing thats going to keep players in the game is the Warriors having an SG Ball side or a Jersey Flegg team. We'd carve up in both these competitions but since its not a real club and its more about business than domestic footy it isnt going to happen

So what your saying leave Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury to get stronger..while kids in the dep south or up north or central north island have nothing to aim for in league??

If we start getting Schools playing league like rugby is in schools..then NZ would Challange the Australia to the number one spot...will never happen..the only thing saving NZ is that NRL clubs keep snapping up our top young talent..

How does getting flogged, borrowing players (like Northland does each year from Auckland) make for stronger provinces

Having all the Bartercard cup teams running a u/20 or u/19 team along with their open sides over the same amount of rounds in the national comp would be a good place to start. Would provide a stepping stone to Bartercard and provide a good quality comp for the younger players to play in all seasen long. The Mixwell Cup u/19 comp in Brisbane is not as strong as jersey flegg u/20 in NSW but is of a high standard and provides a great development comp for a many future NRL players.
