No Attack

I agree with all that xofstgeorge said.

First game, the boys played well in my opinion, perhaps a little rusty in attack. I too am proud of them, this is going to be a great season for us, if last night is anything to go by. I was absolutely pumped last night, defense was great, the lads didn't take a backward step, and kept it up right to the end. Well done.

The only thing we lack is a gamebreaker like Inglis and at the moment I can't really see one on the horizon. But then again, only first match. I can't and won't knock any of the team, they will only get better and better, you mark my words.

I also thoght all the forwards played very well, especially Weyman and Saffy.

Great effort from all 17 player Saffy, Hunt, Priddis and Prior all had an impact and will only get better as for 1 through 13 they could not be faulted. Brain explosion from Hornby in extra time probably cost us but in saying that the attempted field goal from over half way in extra time was a kick and pray it probably should have been a kick to the corner and consolidate field position. Hold the storm to a minimal gain and have a crack after getting into a better position to have a realistic attempt. Dont get me wrong I would have loved to see the field goal attempt sail over and give us the win but it was unrealistic and to give away the penality just after that was the final nail in the coffin.

Yeah agree, two biggest mistakes in et (excluding the hornbags penalty) were the two attempted field goals, kick to the corners and tackle your ass off. we had it over the storm in defence. One or two excellent defensive sets and we would have bene in with a better chance of a win. Oh well great start to the season considering it was a loss.

the attack will come once boyd and priddis get familiar with hornby and soward. the thing that impressed me the most was the fact that the intencity was there the whole game. the only downside of the night is that stanley is not a first grader. he was shocking tonight.

if we can play like that every week it is gonna be an awesome year

Great post mate. Agree with it all. The attack will come eventually & then we will be a very tough proposition either home or away. I'm very excited for the upcoming year & seeing how we improve.

Stanley made some bad mistakes that NRL players shouldn't make. I think he still has doubts within himself. He has the makings of a good player though.

IMO no way Brett Morris deserved to be missing out whilst Chase is playing.

im sorry from now but i missed out on so much bullsh*t that ive had to open up this reply in a new window to comment back on everything the idiot who started the thread said.

for a team who only ever saw a football was during the game time they got for the trials and the last few dayz of last week at training they did pretty well to score 16 points against the storm at the "graveyard". wayne bennet im sure hasn't gone over any attack plays with them, cause as i was taught in my rep days was keeping a team to zero and all u need is a field goal to win.

secondly we had no optional play or decoy runners....well please correct me if im wrong but i clearly remember ONE of the TWO refs penalizing us for a sheppard because one of our forwards was going thru as a decoy.

then you go on to insult BIG DELL. yeah he didnt do too much throughout the game but what counts is he did do something, he levelled up the game for us and it doesnt matter if he does it again or not, the point is bennett had faith in the side he chose and the side he chose gave it all to the fagz in purple.

far out getting too late all in all id like to say BMWpower your a f**king lil female dog get over it, if the boys came out with all these fancy moves from rd1 to rd24 how far would they go in the final series usin the same moves, talk about peaking too early. i forgot the grand final was decided in rd 1.

after we kept getting shut out from equalising at the end of the game and then when cooper made double movement the dragons of old would of throw in the towel given away stupid penalties and some how manage to lose by 18 points but they never gave up and that my fellow dragons was the DIFFERENCE!

I have no doubt the old dragon ways will be eliminated miracles are not achieved in a short period of time. If benny can win a gf with s perry in the 7, and score plenty of points. I am sure our attack will come.

f**k oath, I totally agree.
You dont need to win the first game of the season, you have to win the last game of the season.

First game and it was a very simple game plan. Run the angles in behind the ruck and make the easy metres up the middle. It was well executed for the first 20 odd minutes and when Prior and Saffy came on they went to attacking the edges of the ruck.

This was a very simple game plan aimed at building confidence among the team, It almost payed a dividend in terms of the score board. Rest assured it will pay a dividend in terms of the rest of the season.

The Dragons will make the top 8 and from there it will be a new competition.

Soward was aweful today. He is rubbish. Saints are in strife if they persist with him. Head is much better and can GUIDE the team around better. Not 1 dimensional like Soward. Even when Soward passes the ball he looks uncomfortable. All he can do is kick bombs, chip for himself or kick for the line. Very predictable.

Head knows when to go through the hands, Bomb, grubber in goal etc.

 no offense but that is a load of bullsh*t!

We need Nightingale at fullback. Boyd doesn't offer enough support play, at all. His first try was late in the season. No fullback has worse support play. He is a winger and should be there instead of Dell. imo

from round 1 to the finals. pretty sh*t attack all season. a few tries here and there and some full length of the field trys but not enough to win a comp

Yeah look we were in it if we didnt hand the ball over so often, I was so angry with our forwards, because I know the way we play, if we dont have ball control, we have nothing.

But fully agree, ive had enough of Boyd, he can take a wing spot and try someone else there next season. Nightingale has to make his way into the side, our mistake was not making these changes 5 weeks ago.

i agree boys. No attack. Its always been their problem. Its been there main problem for the last couple of years. They're are unbelievably predictable. I can always tell what they're gonna do.

On the positive side: defense is still great. They leaked a few, but in my opinion, that was never a worry.

I just reckon Wayne Bennett was not a one year wonder. This is gonna take many seasons to turn around this culture that has diseased us. Wayne needs a few more seasons to drill into them the mental toughness to win the comp. I believe more than ever...

- I've mentioned it before, but our side is one of the less naturally-gifted dragons sides of recent decades, and they win games through defence and completing sets, and there is little room for error.

- Today our forwards dished up a lot of ball, my wife didn't know why I was so angry about those turn-overs, but I know 12 months of work slips away every time we give up another ball in our half.

- Bennett's style of football i'm a big fan of, but remember in previous years he had much more powerful squads to work with, who could pluck tries out of nowhere, this year I think we did the best with what we had (the guys gave their hearts tonight), Its just a shame we couldn't put ourselves in with a 50/50 shot, by having form at the right end of the season.

I've got an idea - how about we put in a cross-field kick on the 5th? FFS that hurt my eyes to watch. It also doesn't help when you turn the ball over every 2nd set. Deadset, that game was there for the taking if we were half decent in possession.
