Also, now that Foxtel has been announced as the exclusive broadcaster, it means Nine and to a lesser extent 7, will now ignore completely the buildup to the Cup...

Have a drink everytime a Nine commentator mentions the Cup for the rest of the NRL comp. It'll make Dry July like amatuer hour...

Its very noticeable how the RL shows on Fox have suddenly started talking about the Kangaroos and the RLWC this week!

The majority of fans are watching on kayo and fox these days so it shouldn't be as damaging. It's not like 9 normally promote it anyway.

Given the times of games it’s not like the casual sports fan is going to flick it on anyway, you’d have to make the effort of watching it on delay and it’s only rl fans that will bother. fox will do a better job than ch9 And no miserable Gould looking like he’d rather be anywhere else than in the studio!

I imagine a pretty significant portion of Australia's Sports loving public has access to Fox Sports these days.

Across the services which sells it 1.7m have traditional set top boxes, 200K have it via Foxtel Now and then 1.2m have Kayo. That's 3.1m of 9.8m households, with Kayo's prevalence possibly higher as it feels like everyone shares their account.

Now for your casual Sports fan, they are far more likely to watch a replay or some sort of highlights package like Kayo Minis than get up in the middle of the night to watch the World Cup, which Fox does better than the FTAs.

Fox will lean on their relationship with the NRL to help push the tournament (there is already more coverage on nrl.com about the tournament than usual) to drive awareness and the FTA News will pick it up as it approaches because there will be some stories that will come out of the tournament.

Overall, I feel Fox/Kayo is still a better partner and a better outcome than what could have happened (Sportsflix, Stan Sports, Paramount+)

I’ve got fox so I’m cheering, because 9’s f**king horrible and has never cared about international league, it’s all about the NRL, so it’s a good outcome.

I think it is finally dawning on the NRL that they may have something to sell with the World Cup. A successful World Cup in England followed by a successful tournament in France may give the Cup the credibility it has previously lacked. That will give them a better chance of making it a success in Oz when it is our turn to play host.

I’ll be in NZ for the first few days of the RLWC. Does anyone know what the tv situation is there? I realise there may be some late nights involved lol

Been through the schedule and if I make the effort to get up earlier than normal I should be able to watch a few second halves of those games that kick off at 7.30pm. (A 4.30 am kick off here in springtime Brisvegas 😁)

Yeah that’s not actually so bad, I might try and catch a few games. If I’m on night shift might get to watch a few more!

Replays just aren’t the same.

The Tele will have full pages dedicated to the WC due to News Limited owning Fox. They will see it as an opportunity to increase subscriptions to Kayo/fox. Hopefully they will do a good job of build up to the WC

Makes sense for them to stop subscription churn. I’d be cancelling next week if no World Cup coverage.
