Not sure you can say we have no attack. Defence from those second tier forwards certainly disappointing but we had 3 certain tries disallowed which were only possible due to excellent attack from Widdop and Hunt

McGregor once again outcoached by a FG coaching new comer.
World class halves made no significant difference when competing against a Souths team with Greg Inglis back in the saddle.
The 2018 equation is simple for me.
Hunt and Graham add some improvement but in the context of losing Thommo, Packer and Dugan, are we really that much better overall?
Widdop is a constant for the last 3 years and looks to lack composure as always.
Not a captain's back side IMO.
Many of the teams we will play in 2018 have improved their rosters or have had important players coming back from long term injuries. Souths is one example but also Cowboys, Easts, Brisbane, Parra, Melbourne are top tier teams that we will have to play in a harder draw than 2016, 2017.
Maybe players like Widdop would perform better under a different coach - I don't know but as it stands right now, I am not at all optimistic.
Charity Shield - 6 losses in a row - 3 under McGregor.
Unless the coaching regime changes, we cannot expect to reach our potential.

Ah Mau holds his end up but Lafai, Latimore, Leilua and Sele need to find some fotm in ISP. Mary will get sacked after ten rounds when it will be too late. Players like Field, Host, Lomax and Ross get token time and Herbert no time. We did not need to lose Thompson or Packer but did due to poor player management and then buy
Reserve Grade players like Allgood and Latimore. Leilua has had 120 minutes of game time and has showed that he is not up to it. I can see a swag of losses coming up as the Coach insists on using mediocre players a consistent approach since Bennett left inat the end of 2011.

I think we where ok tonite lomax looks the goods and very exciting we could of easily won and had a few tries disallowed .. Lafai needs to hold the ball and stop flicking it out back he was over the line..second half we created a lot more than souths did..yes our defence needs work on edges.. Dublin is a beast hard hitting full of mongrel

I don't agree the attack was poor, perhaps inside the attacking 20 metres it was, but Hunt needs to control the play in those areas, Widdop has proved over the years he can't do that.
The times Hunt and Widdop combined we looked ok, it'll make a difference at times this year to have two playmakers and not just rely solely on Widdop.

The defence was poor, again, I don't understand how over the last 2 years you can't see that our "up and in" defence fails time after time. Most of the games we lost last year was because they got around our wingers on the outside when the wingers ran in, if this hasn't been fixed by now it's never going to be.

And as per usual, our bench rotation was pathetic, if Mary hasn't got the hang of that by now, he never will.

My 1st post since the end of last season. I needed a "6 Month Mary Free Zone". Here is the problem; the Coach wants to structure the attack in an NFL styled pattern somewhat similar to the Storm. Funny I know that Mary thinks he could replicate Bellamy. In my humble view defenses read that ridiculous sweeping 2nd man cut out play in their sleep. But you look up in the coaching box and there sits the 3 Stooges *Mary, Hornby and Young) nodding their heads as if to say "yep we've got this covered".

Mark my words when I say that Hornby and Young are just as much of a problem as Mary. They have zero coaching pedigree but hold sacred positions based on their 2010 premiership contribution. And here is the funny thing, they are doing their coaching apprenticeships under McGregor. What a joke.

Unless McGregor rips up the playbook and gives attacking responsibility to Hunt and Widdop and in turn empowers the forwards to play 2nd phase we are doomed. Utterly doomed. And my prediction is that Hunt will ask for a release by the end of the season. Now that's an optimistic 1st post lads isn't it!

The bit about Hunt wanting a release not sure , but the rest is spot on . As for coaching the club is in a time warp ...

Rd 1 ............First game of the season, you can't expect the boys to be on so early in the season!
Rd 2 ..........."It's only early days, were still gelling."
Rd 12 ........."It's not really my team, Doust told me to say that."
Rd 24 ......... "I hope to have the team l want by round 1 next season."

If Widdop didn't play last night, the loss would've been worse.

Even though our D was at time well below FG standard, we still had the attacking opportunities to easily win the game by a clear margin.

As the halves combination gels we will outscore the opposition consistently.

The team needs to develop its combinations in both attack and defence.

Once this happens we will win more games than we lose.

Sorry, cannot possibly take a thread titled NO D seriously. Its like everyone has taken a leaf out of Price's and Mary's coaching manuals...
