Mary should follow doust and walk no idea . He came out and said he has the team he wanted. No excuses this year mary now its up to you to coach this team .

Yep and maybe the new CEO's first action will be to sack the coaching staff.

What last night told me is that selections will be crucial.

That side last night lacked quality at left edge second rower, right centre and right wing.

We have ready made replacements in our squad that can improve each of those positions (Host, Mann and Lomax off the top of my head).

Whilst the rest of the team were far from perfect, you add those 3 guys that improves our team infinitely.

I'd also add Kerr for Latimore.

Agree that if Mary tweeks the lineup

If our attack was a little sharper and finished a fraction better, we win by 12.

There are some good signs.

When its all said and done it was treated as a trial.

I agree. Hunt will improve us immensely. Widdop still drives me crazy with his kick happy ways but hopefully together they will be great.

Our forwards (other than Luc) were all impressive just like last year.

But that right side of Aitken and Nighty can’t happen.

Seriously, can you honestly see Mary changing the backline from Flo, Aitken, Lafai and Nene in the first ten rounds?
Barring injury this is what we are stuck with, we all know poor form won't change it.

I don't know what that has to do with the ultimate result which was a loss.
Can Widdop deliver a premiership under McGregor?
That is the real question.

I think he might be able too.
Hunt may take enough pressure off him being the sole playmaker for him to really shine.
I might add he needs to be willing to take a back seat at various stages of matches, which I'm not sure he's willing to do.

He probably won't.

And if he doesn't, we won't make the 8 and I'll be surprised if he survives another year of missing the semis.

It's on him now.

Why is it so?

You see Possm we're in the classic catch 22 situation here.
Play the young guns, they perform well, win games (we all cheer because we're winning) then McGregor keeps his job. If he plays the regulars and they perform poorly, loose games then McGregor would be a greater chance of being sacked.
Of course the opposite also applies.
Very paradoxical.

we were on top after 20 ... then Graham/Vaughan/DeBelin all went off together ... The wheels promptly fell off.

I don't think Mary will ever have all three off in a real game.

The gap between that 3 and Latimore/AhMau/Sele is telling.
Rufus, I saw it exactly the same. In the first 20 minutes I was very happy with how we were going, but as soon as DeBelin, Graham and Vaughn went off, as you said, the wheels fell off.

No, the real question is whether McGregor can oversee a premiership with SGI.

I suppose it's rhetorical.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure Widdop won a title during his time Melbourne.

But that's exactly my point.
No one is doubting Widdop's ability as a footballer but under Bellamy he won a title.
He also had a specific role to play in a very good Melbourne outfit..
In my view, McGregor cannot get the best out of Widdop for the benefit of the team and hard edged results..
3 long years of mediocrity is already far too long.
Any other club would just not tolerate it - we are happy to wait and see and the results are there for everyone to see.
