Figured its time to do a thread that is only player related.
No Doust bashing, No board bashing, just chat about how players are performing. Lets try keep this about players and mary, but lets keep the mary talk to weekly performances and selections made.
If any one jumps on and tries to spin the topic towards the board and/or doust lets ignore those posts and keep this footy related.
We need one thread that is about footy, about the players and how they are performing.
Im going to start by saying i cant wait to see Marshall and Dugan, all off season talk indicates they are primed for a big year.
Not too happy with the Neilson and Farrell selections but its done so im hoping they leave me with egg on my face and have blinders.
Also looking forward to seeing Rose as the year goes on, and O'Brien also, i hope he shows the potential everyone has been talking about.
Interesting fact, when he walked away from league and the dragons, did you know that canterbury offered him a contract that he accepted but walked away from too?
Hope he plays to his full potential, he really could be anything this kid.

That was predictable but still somehow funny...

I'm hoping O'Brien might turn into something special, but I think he's still a bit of a diamond in the rough. As for the two centres, I'm hoping McGregor knows a bit more about the players than I do, because it seems to me that Aitken and Mata'utai were in better form than the two centres McGregor selected. Anyway, only time will tell I guess.

Watching some of the games so far, with off-loads and evasive speed men wreaking havoc, it makes it an even stronger case for Aitken and Mata'utia to get a run. I kind of miss Quinlan already as well. But hopefully Nielsen can put in a good effort and use his knowledge of Melbourne's plays and style of play to see what's coming and shut it down.

It broke my heart a little watching BMoz play a blinder for the Dogs but good luck to him - just on that, I reckon he might end up back on the wing soon as their left winger is a bit ordinary.

Blinder? I wouldn't call it a blinder and to be honest with Josh having been a dog for years now it was kind of "meh" to me.

I agree. Up until his try which was handed to him on s platter (looked far more dramatic than it was... He was put in the clear and ran down the touch line), he did nothing. Thought he was a bit lost actually

Yeah, made 203 mtrs, 11 tackle breaks, 3 off - loads, 3 line breaks and scores the try that gave them a chance with a few minutes left - playing out of position in a new team - terrible night, woeful. He'll probably get dropped next week.

I went to the dogs panthers game today as I live down the road and Morris did look out of puff and lost a lot of the game but when it counted he showed his true worth and shoes some X factor
Disappointing seeing him in blue and white rather than red and white but as one door closes one opens for us
I'm excited white to showing us some excitement this week and rest of year

Take away 80m and 1 line break for his try, and 1 other line break that was handed to him via and Kasiano offload, and you are left with pretty much every game he played for us in the last 3 years. Impressive for a winger, but hardly a 'blinder' for a $600k fullback.

People see what they want to see. If those stats were done while wearing our colours it would be great.
Seeing as though he is now nothing more than Canterbury scum he ain't worth 600k. Gotta move on people. It will hurt more when/if he scores against us. To win the game

Not necessarily about the team he plays for. He is a fullback now and a fairly pricey one, will be (rightfully) expected to rack up those sort of numbers as a minimum every week. As I said, impressive numbers for a winger, but not a 'blinder' for an expensive fullback.

$600k for a top line fullback is not expensive.
we are paying Dugan a rumoured 700k

thats what good "spine" players cost at a minimum.

Not necessarily. Its money for a 'good' player. There are plenty of teams running out with fullbacks on less money - I'd imagine Cowboys, Panthers, possibly even Roosters and Manly all have first choice fullbacks on similar or less than $600k, all teams that are expected to be fighting for a spot around the top of the table.

As I said, stats such as those highlighted by kit are expected with that sort of pay. Its hardly a high quality fullback having a 'blinder'.

pretty certain according to all reports it was a 4 year deal worth $2.8m

I'd like to see all player salaries (according to contracts signed and registered by the NRL) made public and published on the NRL website.

I?d also like to see all TPA payments published on the same website.

Only in this way will the cheating be stamped out.

If everyone could see these figures they would easily identify the extent of the degrading of the salary cap system conducted by the Dogs, Roosters ??.. It will be the for all to see and I?m sure that changes will be made to the TPA system very soon after ? if not before.

The current TPA system, if allowed to continue, will be the dominant instrument to cause the downfall of many Clubs ? including the Draons.

Possm,

No one would dis agree with you there on any of those points.

I just don't think it's likely the NRL is either interested or able to police TPA's.

Stating the obvious, as a third party sponsor is involved, what is to stop clubs publishing one figure and secretly paying the player another?

It's not like the third party sponsor can be audited or the NRL has access to their accounts.

Maybe I'm wrong, not sure.
