No one wants Mortimer

He's a little five-eighth without much of a running, kicking or passing game. The only thing he DOES have is a very good manager who convinced the Eels he was worth $220,000 a year...

But he is a good support player and he has got heart...

If he went to Melbourne he'd be a world beater in 12 months.

nope you have to have at least some talent (other than a surname) for Bellamy to work with

But he is a good support player and he has got heart...

kinda like when ben creagh amkes a good decoy run in origin

if his name wasn't mortimer he wouldnt have seen first grade anywhere cos he doesnt offer much

sucked into the eels for falling for his managers and the bulldogs bididng war

He'll get picked up by a new club for 2013. All the money is spent for next year. Clubs are trying to shed players to get under next years cap at this stage. Nobody is signing anyone that wasn't a priority or is on better than average money.

True but so was Soward until a couple of years ago

I don't think Morts is all that awful, like has been said-he needs a better coach and maybe a sort of 'mental refreshment.' Textbook second year syndrome that's just gotten worse every year since!

Exactly, Ive spent a lot of time arguing with a Parra fan at work last season about Morts, and what I posted before are his arguments for why he is a good player lol. He agreed that he is a shit passer, kicker and runner but still rated him becuse he was a great support player and he had heart cause he would try and tackle anyone. If your a half and the strongest point of your game is your support play, your struggling.

Suffice to say he has seen the light.

He seems like a nice kid, but a sloth runs faster and Mickey Rooney would have better penetration.

At least he got some good coin for a few years. Better than most young kids get.

Doesnt seem like a confident bloke. Surely theres a decent first grader in him though. Maybe he'd make a decent link man, sorta like a second option. Maybe as Thurston's five eighth or with another halfback with alot of experience.
Parra isnt the best place for a half atm.

No one wants him at his current rate. If he was on half the salary you'd probably have 2-3 teams at least interested.

Well said. He can't just lose what he did show . . . albeit fleetingly

On the right money (ie not much) he'd be a good pick up for a lot of clubs. He's got a lot of talent, but he is in desperate need of a change of scenery.

A top coach with a strong focus on structure and discipline (Bennett, Bellamy, Griffin etc) could really bring out the best in him.

Agreed.....a change of scenery and the right coach would do him the world of good. Of course though he is going to have to forget about the 220K a season for a while until he proves that he hasn't lost what he showed in his rookie year.

Could not agree more.

Parra are playing as well as they can at the moment and thats commendable, but there;s no one there who can get the team around the park and allow him to play second fiddle.

He'd be Finch all over again, but having said that, he needs a system like Melbournes to thrive. Anywhere else, apart from maybe Newcastle or the Dragons next year and he'll struggle.

I like him though. Good little competitor in an ordinary team. He was excellent in 09 because he stays on the ball, but not many teams play like Parra did in 09. It was freakish.

Tough thing for him is that wherever he goes, excluding SL perhaps, he will be in exactly the same position as at the Eels, barely on the fringes of the 17 waiting for injuries or such to bust into a team.

Long, hard road back. Tim Smith still hasn't done it, rate him higher than Mortimer.

He had a good first season, had a real knack for scoring tries but gone seriously down hill since. He'll go well in a team with a dominant halfback rather than one that is reliant on the Hayne train.

Oh........well forget what I said about him coming to Brisbane then. :(

He's not as talented as Carney but there is a likeness when it comes to showcasing that talent.

I know why Carney's not giving his best but I think Kearney's got what it takes.

Maybe Mortimer should go to the Roosters and Carney to the Eels . . . reverse psychology
No thank you.

He got a run in 1st grade because Finch had a sook and left the club, then Keating broke his jaw, it was between himself and Albert Kelly, who couldn't tackle.
His name got him the pay day, but he was just lucky with his opportunity in 1st grade.

could go well in a good team where he is not expected to be the no1 playmaker, more a link man. He would sure have the motivation to put egg on a few people, dose he have the skill ,not sure and at 200g a year it would be a big risk. I think he should take a pay cut and head south and see what the Storm can do for him.

I would not be suprised if Sheens offloads Lui he ends up at the Tigers, just seems to be a Sheens type player. Time will tell
