No Test for Sydney

As I already said, the Test was moved from Sydney that year because they feared a worse crowd. Go and ask your Year 6 teacher about it when the holidays are over.

To compare apples with apples, Suncorp has shat all over Sydney this decade. End of story.

I thought it was a tri nations, not a test?

And you lst quote is wrong. Suncorp has been an empty cave in the test arena since before Super League. And where did that start again????

I thought because it is on the tellie, maybe, but I think it is going where there is more interest at the moment, and could it be cause the Swans are getting more interest these days.

that is sacrelege, you can not take any game aay from Suncorp, actually all origins should be played at Suncorp

I disagree. Qld should move a home game to Dairy Farmers. The Maroons belong to the people of Townsville, Cairns and Rockhampton just as much as they do to people from Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast.

Townsville won't get an Origin until its stadium gets redeveloped to ~40'000. And considering that the Beattie government has spent sh*tloads on LP/Gabba/Robina stadiums in the last decade I wouldn't hold my breath.

Come on, Origins have been played at Olympic Park before. Sure Dairy Famers doesn't have the capacity of Suncorp, but what would it cost if just once, the people of North Queensland got to see their team? I feel for people who live in Northern Queensland- it seems the powers that be in their state couldn't care less about them.

I don't mind Queensland and I like Brisbane. The worst things about Queensland are Queenslanders and canetoads, and the worst thing about Brisbane are its' national sports teams

No I wouldn't. There are no good reasons for it to be held up here. Qld's geographical and demographic spread as well as the facilities are such that it is just a silly idea.

Surprised idiot? Or just disbelieving?

I would have thought that Queensland's geographical and demographic spread would make it SENSIBLE for it to be moved out of the far SE corner occasionally.

I guess you are showing your habitual disintrest for your 'team'. Next week,it will be, what, Knightboy?

And I'm sure you are showing your habitual lack of intelligence. Where would you play it Musty? DFS, with half the capacity of Lang Park?

BTW, enlighten me as to what you think my habitual disinterest for my team is regarding the Qld Origin side.

Shut up and let us think you're a fool...

The capacity argument doesn't hold up. If that were the case then every Origin match would be played at Telstra Stadium or the MCG. Remember that it was only a very few years agao that a 30,000 crowd at Lang Park and 40,000 at the SFS were considered perfectly acceptable for Origin. As well as capacity, one of the other chief criteria is taking it to where the fans are. So why not the first match at Suncorp (50,000), the second at Telstra (82,000) and a third at Dairy Farmers (25,000-30,000). Or the first at Telstra, second at Suncorp and third at EAS (25,000-30,000)?

Firstly Q, I thought you wanted more games for Melbourne. Your idea would reduce the number of games available to take down there as Sydnay and Brisbane would lose one game each every second season and thus be that much keener to host test matches.

Secondly, I reckon we should be trying to get the biggest crowds we should within the state the games are allocated to. DFS v Lang Park is a mismatch, as is EAS v SA.

while that is true, Suncorp in the Cauldron, people should be more than willing to make the trek there

I'm against taking Origin outside NSW and Qld. Always have been. Test matches are the best vehnicle for promoting the game outside those two states because it gives fans, who can not identify with two "foreign" states, a team they can truly get behind and support with passion - the Kangaroos.

Secondly, I reckon we should be trying to get the biggest crowds we should within the state the games are allocated to. DFS v Lang Park is a mismatch, as is EAS v SA.
I think the matches should be taken to where the fans are - to reward them for supporting game. The fact is that while the largest proportion of fans are based in Sydney and Brisbane, no where near all of them are. There are heartlands of league in northern Queensland and regional NSW that have stuck with the game thru thick and thin and supported it in fantastic numbers. They deserve an opportunity to see the big matches just ocassionally without having to travel, book accomodation or take time off work.

Brisbane and Sydney should always host at least one Origin match each year. But fans in these places have always and and will always have a much bigger opportunity to attend the big games. Forget pure crowd numbers for the moment, that's just a dick waving exercise. Think of *who* gets to see the matches. Mostly Brisbane and Sydney fans who can easily get to the match and get home on the night, and then a dramatically smaller proportion of country fans who can afford to jump thru all the hoops to make it. Just occassionally I'd like to see the match taken to some of the people who rarely get the opportunity but have still been the game's greatest supporters.

You're assuming most people can casually afford to take days off work, pay for air travel and accomodation. Tell that to the family in north Queensland who can afford tickets and a car trip, and not much else. Just occasionally, let's take a match to some of them.

1. An origin should be moved to either Townsville or Melbourne when we have two for 'home' games. IMO... it's good for the game and Suncorp can deal with hosting just the one.

2. Misty - stop with the sledging of Brisbane's bad OLD days when it comes to test crowds in your justification of the pitiful attitudes of the Sydney fans.

Guess what? Yes Brisbane HAD sh*t crowds (note the HAD) for internationals. Our punishment was no internationals for around SIX years, as they were constantly forced to Sydney and even one to Newcastle.

We've seen the error of our ways and the last three internationals have resulted in mammoth crowds.

Maybe a six year international freeze in Sydney could have the same effect.

Reality is the ARL need the money and won't forgo over a million $'s of income in gate receipts to reward loyal fans in far flung places.

Exactly Red. The Origin attendances are a big fillup for the QRL and the NSWRL and the money is used to support Rugby League throughout the states.
