Miccle - you lot are happy to sledge when Sydney gets 28k to a tri nations, but we can't point the finger back at your 12.5k?

You lot have happily made the bed in the poor crowds argument. If you don't like being reminded, dont sh*t in the fan.

I don't mind being reminded - but what's the point you are trying to make? This is about fixing Sydney's problem with international crowds. Yes our 12k was awful, but it was almost a freakin decade ago!!!

Since we were finally allowed to host internationals again it's been 40,000+ all round - there's no point dredging up the past because an argument of Bris 1997 vs Syd 2006 has no real merit.

It was 1999. BTW, I don't think you were ever banned from hosting internationals, it's just been so long since there has been a year where more than 1 international has been held in Oz. Certainly, the 12500 crowd sapped any confidence the IRL had in Brisbane. Especially since Auckland internationals always exceed 17k.

As I said, It's a reminder of Brisbane's efforts in a similar situation. I'm glad that Suncorp hums to internationals now. I also regret that Telstra's too big, Parra Stadium is now too small, and the SFS is too out of the way to get a decent crowd. Yes, maybe internationals can go elsewhere - the list of suitable candidates is significant (Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Newcastle, Townsville and now even Perth).

bagging Sydney, however, is rediculous, and as I have pointed out, hypocritical.

Reality is the ARL need the money and won't forgo over a million $'s of income in gate receipts to reward loyal fans in far flung places.
They did when they took an Origin to Melbourne this year. 50,000 in Melbourne vs 80,000 in Sydney is the same gate loss as the difference between Brisbane and Townsville. And a Townsville match wouldn't cost nearly as much to market as a Melbourne match. Word of mouth alone would sell it out.

Besides which the vast majority of income from Origin comes from television rights and sponsorship anyway. As long as you can get a TV crew there and television broadcast out, the host city is more about what it does for the game locally than anything else. You could just as easily play it in LA. Oh, they did that already.

Q, your logic is failing. 50K in Brissie and Melbourne and 80K in Sydney is 180K. 50K in Brissie, 80K in Sydney and 25K in Townsville is 155K. That's a lot of attendance money not going to the ARL to be distributed to the game.

Not at all. Of course there's a difference in overall gate. I didn't say otherwise. But the proposition that the ARL won't forego $'s at the gate just isn't true. This past season alone shows that.

But there were other compensating benefits to playing it in melbourne (in fact huge possible long term benefits for the game). Holding a Origin in townsville offers nothing to the game short of giving NQ folk an opportunity to see a game cheaper than normal.

I disagree. Bagging Sydney for shocking crowds is justified. And by the way, ask that Year 6 teacher of yours how to spell. Hope you liked the yo-yos that you got from Santa.

So, then, we can bag Brisbane for shocking crowds too. So stop being such a f**king thin skinned preschooler about it.

BTW, what is a yo-yos, oh spelling mastermind????

Sydney's crowds don't warrant a freeze in international fixtures. 28,000 is far better than 12,500 odd. With no more internationals till the 2008 WC, i think that punishment is enough (also considering we only have 1 origin in 2007)

28,000 out of 3 million-odd people vs. 12,500 out of 1 million. Remember that much.

Fair point, Miccle. From now on, all tests and Origins should be played in Newcastle and Townsville, given their attendance aggregates far exceed ours.

the only reason that is the case is because they are one offs if they had them more often, you would not see such high attendances

Definitely not what I'm saying Misty, but my point still stands about the numbers IMO. Aside from the fact we're talking about seven years ago, 28k in Sydney today isn't much better than 12.5k in Brisbane back then, especially considering how far international RL has come since those days.

Finally Sydney have had crap crowds for the whole tri nations & the final series Exept the grand final. Brisbane HAs the best rugby league stadium in the world & they need more games played up here.

WTF?????? Since when is an NRL game a one off at Newy or Townsville?

Billigan, you forget that Sydney got heaps more to it's Origin than Brisbane did.

funny how you want more games at Suncorp, but you didtched the WCC, and screamed when the Titans wanted to play there!

Slightly off topic now, but you asked "what is a yo-yos", so I will quickly respond. According to the Wikipedia:

A yo-yo is a toy consisting of two equally sized and weighted discs of plastic, wood, or metal, connected with an axle, around which string is wound.

Therefore, yo-yos (plural) are more than one yo-yo. A tip for you, Misty, when using plurals is to use the word "are", not "is". Hence, your question should read, "BTW, what are yo-yos, oh spelling mastermind????" Don't worry too much about spelling and grammar. At least, not until you hit high school.

Back on topic, we should perhaps rename the Trans-Tasman Test the Queensland Test to ensure that it is played somewhere that always pulls a decent crowd. Even if people tire of Brisbane, holding it at the Central Comets home ground will pull a bigger crowd than Telstra in Sydney.
