It's Ali G! FFS with our own team we would have much more interest and build up a bigger fanbase. So now that I have proved that Perth got a bigger crowd than most Sydney teams you want to pick apart the fact it was one off? The argument is lost retire gracefully tool!

Your are right, OVP. Dimitris has lost the plot so much he's frothing over a spelling bee, Perthy is bragging about his 'crowd', but can't give an average (ie the sum of multiple home crowds divided by the amount of home games) because it's been that bloody long since Perth had a team, the Raiders were the comp heavyweights, and Ricky Stuart was admired!!!!

Sharkyboy is name calling too.

Not a decent argument (or a brain cell) between them!

ok if I must, if it will shut you up.

1995 Reds average beat every Sydney team except Manly
1996 Reds Average beats Tigers, Canterbury, Illawara, Penrith, Souths, Wests
1997 Reds average beats Penrith, Canterbury, Illawara, Souths, St George, Wests

WTF was your point again?

My QUESTION, again for the time lagged (is it still 2006 over there, or maybe 1956???) is thus:

How are the Perth RL crowds looking in recent years???

Recent years is not 1995. 1999 is OK, in context with crap Brisbane crowds at internationals (Queenslanders have trouble remembering past the last 2 of anything - be it internationals, meals or breaths). However, quoting 2006 is rediculous, considering Perth hasn't had a footy team in a decade!!!!

All your stats showed is that Perth got excited in it's first year, and then dropped off in comparison dramatically. Even worse, because those years league crowds were dying in Sydney because of your Stupid League.

BTW, of those 6 Sydney teams you bettered in '97 - 2 were Traitor League - so no bugger watched 'em, and 3 others merged. BTW, Illawarra is not part of Sydney. Anyway, how did you scrub up against Parra, Manly, Norths, Easts, Cronulla, Balmain? Piss poor, obviously!

I think having a club is a tad more important than having a crowd, unless you are suggesting that every second sunday 20000 Sandgropers turn up to the WACA and close their eyes and pretend there is a game on!

I answered your question a number of posts back (do you actually read replies?) on the one opportunity we have had recently our crowds showed up well. On the only other opportunity we have had we not only showed up well but were superior to a large number of Sydney teams. Put all the spin you like on it but I have proved when the opportunity has arisen Perth has responded positively to RL. In 2012 we will be back, we will continue to draw bigger crowds than a number of Sydney teams and the game of RL will be all the better for it.

Clearly this is going nowhere fast as seems the to be a regular trait with your contributions to this board, thats it from me.

Huge crowds. 11k and 13k for events. Certainly not regular home crowds. Heck, the AFL and Union can pack Telstra once annually, because they are EVENTS. Not regular.

For your events, you got 11k and 13k. And you criticese Sydney's crowds????

I asked about your recent home crowd averages for NRL. You gave me AFL crowds, soccer crowds and Union crowds. So I asked again. You then gave me an event, and made a big noise out of 13k. Events for visiting codes in Sydney pack Telstra (AFL, Bledisloe Cup, even NFL). They also pack the MCG and Wembly. IN Perth, you get 13000 - claiming a massive victory because they beat Souths home crowd in a spoon year.

With this you claim that Sydney has crowd problems.

Woop de friggin sh*t!!! So the whole of Perth's drawing power will equal that of an average Sydney team? Wouldn't the Central Coast make the same claim?

If Perth can do no better, then why bag Sydney? Popular bandwagon, I know.

I do, however, have a question for you. When you gleefully joined Super League, was it part of the deal that you became as paranoid of Sydney as Queenslanders are???

Two points are clear about Musty:

1. He/she/it is living in denial about Sydney's sh*t crowds for internationals.
2. He/she/it doesn't get the connection between averge crowds and actually having a team to support.

Oh, and Musty hates Qlders, PR, anyone from outside Sydney really.

On the contrary, it's You having the difficulty accepting that poor crowds to matches can happen anywhere - and the worst ever was actually in Brisbane a few games ago.

2. He/she/it doesn't get the connection between averge crowds and actually having a team to support.

Perthboy is the one with that problem. Read his replies again.

You wouldn't know where either camp is, considering you reckon I'm from Sydney.

Anyway, you are en expert for switching camps.

Ah, my favourite Year 6 student is talking complete nonsense once more. The worst ever crowd was in Brisbane? I don't think so.

How about Australia v. New Zealand in Sydney in 1978? 6541 NSW "fans" turned out. Great effort from the Mexicans there.:sarcasm:

As you have already proved earlier in this thread, you are both utterly ignorant and completely illogical.

You are right. I just rechecked, and indeed, Sydney had that 6k test crowd back in '78. A generation ago.

Doesn't make Brisbane's 12.5 k effort any less abysmal.

Of course the 12.5k was abysmal. WAS.

WAS, when it happened 8 years ago. WAS, and Brisbane then hosted no internationals for five long years.

WAS, before Brisbaneites realised the error of their ways, and more than 40,000 have attended every international fixture since then.

WAS, highlights that it was in the past and is no longer that way anymore :)

So if we are all baring our souls on the support for League in each city, lets have a closer look:

1. For the 2006 Season, the total home crowds for Sydney based teams where 1,452,000. If we halve the StGeorge number (due to Wollongong games), we get 1,375,000. Now there have been teams playing some home games elsewhere, but I am not adjusting for that. It will not make a massive difference. I am happy for someone else to have a go.

2. For the 2006 Season, the total home crowds for Brisbane where 374,494.
http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/2006.html

3. Thus, 374,000/1,375,000 = 27% of the Sydney crowds.

4. Population of Sydney 4,250,000, Brisbane 1,810,000 (any updated numbers here, and we can adjust the figures).

5. Thus, 1,810,000/4,250,000 = 42% of the Sydney population.

Therefore, despite Brisbane being 42% the size of Sydney, its crowds are only 27% of the Sydney total.

Yes, Sydney has more teams, but it is not as if the Broncos have a full house at every home game. Instead of putting the boot into Sydney over the Tri-Nations Final, always keep these numbers in mind chumps. ;-)

If only it were more simple Ziggy.

What percentage of league fans in Sydney support teams based in their city?

You'd have to think that the combined total of Broncos, Cowboys, Raiders, Knights, Storm and Warriors fans in Sydney wouldn't be anything too significant - I say 10%. Maximum.

How many league fans in Brisbane despise the Broncos and thus only attend matches when their team is playing?

That's one flaw in your argument.

The next, obviously, is the AMOUNT of games FFS. Well and good to say that Brisbane only had 27% of the amount of people attending games compared to Sydney, but:

Sydney hosted, what, around 108 games this year?

Brisbane hosted... 12.

So Brisbane only hosted 10% of the number of games when compared to Sydney??

hmmmm.

Seems that we then had an average crowd of two and a half times the size of an average Sydney crowd.

Keep that one in mind, chump...

And your post further validates our argument regarding the TN final. Brisbane does indeed have a population the size of 42% of Sydneys.

And yet we get a crowd for a regular TN match, not even the final, which is 150%+ larger than what Sydney can achieve for a hotly anticipated decider. Nice one. Chump.

Slightly less abysmal than Sydney's 6K perhaps?

LOL @ Musty. But hang on, that was a generation ago and Brisbane's was only 9 years ago. There's a big difference you know.
