Non Footy Chat Thread II

Raiders will be specials. Pommies in their element.

Sunday will be close. If you can't play daytime footy in cool conditions you should give up. It's more the dew in night games that travelling teams aren't used to....the cold is a shock.....but you just play footy. While it might snow on Saturday, Sunday should be clear.

Look, I agree that he shouldn't have been sacked. But where do you draw the line? If I follow a 'religion' that advocates killing people who do X, Y or Z, should I be able to encourage that? I don't think that I should. There's a limit.
Is it wrong to want to change what you perceive to be unjust laws? There'll always be someone (many someones actually) happy with the legal status quo. They'll fight tooth and nail to portray those who want to change things as immoral.

Will be interesting to see if this precedent impacts Izzy’s court case. Whilst the nature of the tweets were different, both employers sacked on the basis of breach of code of conduct.

Freedom of speech is not a constitutional right. Freedom of religion is. If it goes to the High Court, Folau wins, hands down.

As for the code of conduct thing - that cannot supersede the Constitution. Once Folau wins, such codes will be deemed unconstitutional and they will become unenforceable on religious grounds.

As for the Instagram thing - another constitutional right is freedom of association, which has been shown in the High Court to include public expression (hence why protests are constitutionally legal). Thus, the Instagram post is perfectly valid in a constitutional light.

If the ARU don't settle and instead allow this to go the High Court then they will lose, hands down. The result will be a precedent that is the exact opposite of what they want. It's dangerous territory...

The constitution does not guarantee freedom of religion as a constitutional right, it deals only with the commonwealth ( so federal ) governments ability to write laws that prohibit or curtail the free exercise of religion.

How the High Court might interpret that in relation to Falau's case is hardly a given.

Is this the end of the world? I've noticed some strong winds and it is quite noisy in the shed hearing all the tin rattle but it isn't even cold.
This polar blast has been a little disappointing.

Oh really ? Which statute protects the plaintiff, my learned friend ?

I posted above that all states and territories apart from NSW and South Australia offer legal protections to employees and independent contractors against discrimination on the grounds of religion.

Over to you.

Falou wins. He has done nothing wrong. In his eyes he is just trying to help the homosexuals from going to hell. Giving them warning. If people want to see it as an attack rather then a warning then that is their problem.

People just want something to winge about.

Did you know that the suicide rate (attempted and successful) for LGBT :flag_white:️‍:rainbow: teens is quadruple the national average ? Self harm (cutting, substance abuse etc) is 10 times the national average. But keep the hate speech going. They just need to get over it FFS.

But you throw shit on religion @Gronk
This could be seen as hate.

I do not see Izzy hating. He is just quoting what he has been told is right.
