Macquarie Fort, built November, 1819, and it mounted 15 guns, ten of which were 24-pounders, and five were six-pounders. When originally constructed, the fort was built on an isolated reef, separated from the mainland by a channel of water, across which was a bridge. The latter remained, in position till the redoubt was demolished, but the channel was long ago filled in, and a road constructed over it.
In 1903 it was knocked down and converted into a tram depot which was in turn demolished in 1958 to make way for the Sydney Opera House.

Parramatta library, never went there. I also never did assignments when at MBHS apart from surviving each day at a time. Everyone drove Holdens back in the day.

And, my old man grew up in Bronte. Still owns the original family home through decadency.
He used to swim from Bronte to Tamarama regularly.
This must have been gone before his time.

That's a fascinating read. Thanks for that.
Dad has had two strokes this year. He's lost his sight and is suffering terrible short term memory loss (dementia) but still has an amazing long term memory.
He'd love me to read him that story. It's his birthday today and I'm seeing him tomorrow so I think I'll do just that. Much appreciated link mate.

My great grandfather was Canadian and I believe that he had a waterfront house at Gunnamatta Bay. Which must have been super out of the way back then.

He remembers so much from his childhood, but absolutely nothing from 5 minutes or 24 hrs or 7 days ago. Even my kids names.
However, he talks about his past a lot. Bronte/Tamarama/Bondi were his life. It brings him nothing but joy. That's why something like this would be a godsend to him. Thank you.
