Bears doing well today.

Up 14-0 at the break.

Cam Murray is an absolute tearaway, halfback Eli Levido is doing well as is Ed Murphy.

Tyrrell is doing alright he dropped the ball and gave away a penalty in the first 10 but made up for it.

Tom has been destructive up the middle as is Cherro who scored a nice try, just got to be a little more disciplined.

Talakai is doing well at second row and seems more suited to it than centre.

Moceidreke Quadruple Seals Bears Win

Four tries to winger Sitiveni Moceidreke has paved the way for a third consecutive win for the North Sydney Bears, as they overcame the Newcastle Knights 30-6 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Luke Kelly, Tom Burgess, Anthony Cherrington were also standouts for the Bears, while Jalen Feeney and Nick Meaney tried their best for the home side. While North Sydney scored some late points, the scorecard ultimately reflected the contest accurately.

The teams took the field on the 27th anniversary of a meeting of yesteryear; the Knights defeated the Bears 13-8 in the 1990 season opener. It was clear from the outset that today's match-up would not be so low scoring, however, and despite some early missed opportunities from both sides it would be the Bears to get on the scoreboard first. Sitiveni Moceidreke finished a simple left-side movement from Noth Sydney and with Eli Levido's conversion missing, they had the 4-0 lead.

Experienced pair Tom Burgess and Anthony Cherrington both looked dangerous but came up just short of the line several times; despite the visitors enjoying an overwhelming bulk of possession on the Knights' line, they were struggling to post more points. Eventually Brad Deitz put Cherrington through a gap and the lock forward dived over between the uprights, resulting in a 10-0 scoreline.

North Sydney have extended their undefeated run in 2017 to four matches, after accounting for fellow competition front-runners by 12-4 in a fiery clash at Aubrey Keech Reserve.

While Mounties were aided by the late addition of former Queensland State of Origin representative, Dave Taylor, it would be the Bears who would fire, bringing an end to the home side’s impressive start to 2017.

The two tries to one effort from Norths would not be without controversy however, with tempers flaring in the dying moments of the clash —Bears hooker, Brad Deitz being sin-binned for a professional foul with four minutes in the match remaining, leaving the eventual victors a man down to finish the game.

Ill-discipline would would feature throughout the match, and the opening exchanges were no exception. Inside the first four minutes Mounties got multiple early scoring opportunities inside the Bears 20 metre line, but despite the momentum, Norths were able to repel the attacking raids with strong defence.

The Bears would get their own string of opportunities though when halfback, Eli Levido, forced a repeat-set via a well-weighted grubber-kick, setting up a number of scoring opportunities for his side that would apply pressure to the home team.

With 15 minutes in the half gone, Mounties kicked a crucial forty-twenty through Jordan Turner that would see the home-side park themselves firmly inside the Bears side of half-way. Two tackles later, Dominic Reardon would be the beneficiary when he steamed onto a long Turner cut-out pass to score in the corner, to make the score 4-0.

Norths got themselves on the board at the 22 minute mark after a penalty to the visitors inside the 10 metres eventually resulted in Levido throwing a long ball out to winger, Dane Nielsen, who touched down in the corner to equalise. Levido’s conversion attempt was waved away, leaving the score at four apiece.

Mounties looked to hit-back moments later when Taylor hit a short-ball at speed close to the line, but while the ‘Coal Train’ looked certain to score, poor handling would rob him of a four-pointer mere inches from the line.

With 13 minutes left in the first half, Levido kicked a booming forty-twenty that would go out just metres from the try-line to again place the North-siders in prime attacking position. But yet another penalty would halt the momentum of the match, prompting referee Chris Trenemen to warn both sides.

Norths would opt to take the shot at goal, with Levido booting his side ahead to make the score 6-4 going into the sheds.

On the resumption, Norths applied the blow-torch to the Mounties defence, with wave after wave of attack raining down on the home-side’s own line. After multiple patient attempts, Norths would finally break through when a slick back-line movement resulted in Ed Murphy crossing out wide. Levido’s conversion attempt was again waved away, leaving the Bears in control at 10-4.

With Norths again looking dangerous on the Mounties line, Norths were awarded a penalty after Cheyne Whitelaw was hit high by Makahesi Makatoa. Norths seized the chance to boot themselves two points further ahead, with Levido slotting the goal from right in front to make it 12-4 with 20 minutes remaining.

The Bears continued to gather momentum by forcing a number of morale-boosting errors late in the match, much to the appreciation of the vocal Bears faithful who made the trip to Aubrey Keech for the Round 4 clash.

With seven minutes remaining, Bears hooker, Deitz was collected by a swinging arm, prompting a penalty that would see Norths have another roll of the dice close to the home-side’s line that would again prove fruitless.

Mounties would dominate the closing stages of the match following the sin-binning of Deitz, but it would be the North Sydney side that would take home the competition points.

North Sydney Bears 12 (D Nielsen, E Murphy tries; E Levido 2 goals) def Mounties 4 (D Reardon try)

Lost a game that they should have won.poor last tackle options by the halves(no deep kicks in the 2nd half against a small tigers back 3),too many poor, shallow midfield bombs, and terrible execution of set plays to our right hand side cost thrm the 2points

Tigers Score Upset Win Over Bears

FIRST-UP WIN: The Wests Tigers defeated the North Sydney Bears to get their first two competition points of the season. Image: David Napper.

A Joel Edwards try with seven minutes left has propelled the Wests Tigers to an upset 18-16 win over the North Sydney Bears in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW match played at Chatswood Oval this afternoon.

Coming from 16-6 down with 15 minutes to play, the Tigers showed great determination to score their first win for the Intrust Super Premiership NSW win – and send the Bears crashing to their first season loss.

In a tight and tough opening period, the Tigers showed that they meant business when hooker Jacob Liddle burst clear from dummy half in the 17th minute from half way to send five-eighth Justin Hunt away for his first try under the posts. Jordan Rankin converted for a 6-0 Tigers lead.

The Bears then worked their way into field position for former Melbourne Storm and Newcastle Knights prop Robbie Rochow to step into the clear 13 minutes later, before being brought down close to the Tigers’ line.

Bears halfback Eli Levido then darted past the backpedalling Tigers defence to score on the next tackle. Levido converted his own try to level scores up at 6-6.

The scores remained level at half-time despite both sides having half chances late in the first half.

As both sides probed for the opening as the arm wrestle continued through the middle to start the second half, the Bears took full advantage from two Tigers errors – both from kicks – to take the lead.

First, Tigers winger Luke Garner dropped a high Luke Kelly midfield bomb 14 minutes into the second half to give the Bears a scrum feed and field position from close range.

Bears winger Abbas Miski finished a neat left sided short side move at the end of the set from the scrum to score in the corner and give the Bears the lead at 10-6.

Nine minutes later, Tigers fullback Watson Heleta made a terrible mess of misjudging another Kelly midfield bomb.

Heleta allowed the ball to bounce instead of taking the spiralling kick on the full; Levido pounced on the bouncing ball coming through on the chase and toed the ball ahead to the in-goal area to score his second try under the posts.

Levido converted his own try and the Bears almost looked home with a 16-6 lead.

The Tigers, however, were not to be denied.

Forcing a Bears mistake with 12 minutes left, the Tigers got sufficient field position for halfback Rankin to send a cross field kick on the last tackle of the next set for Hunt to make a spectacular leap and mid-air catch on the full to dive over for his second try.

Ranking converted to set up the grandstand finish at 16-12 as the match entered the last 10 minutes.

With seven minutes left, a left sided move late in the tackle count saw Hunt break clear and time his pass beautifully for Edwards to crash over and score. Rankin nailed the conversion and the Tigers were back in front.

The Tigers defence then just held on in a frenetic closing five minutes in the face of waves of late North attack inside the Tigers 20 metre area to clinch their first win of the season.

The Tigers will now face up to Mounties at Leichhardt Oval next Saturday, while the Bears have to pick themselves up for a meeting with Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Sports Ground next Saturday.

Why is Tasi on the bench? Reports I've read is that he is one of the players that played well last week
and now he's on the bench?
