Good to see Travers starting at 6.

Goolagong isn't named for U20's or Norths. Is he injured?????

Maybe Saumamao is injured too????

Yeah I think I read on another forum that Goolagong is out for the entire season. Did an injury in a pre-season trial.

Why would GI be out?

Interesting to see young Toby Rudolph make the step up to NSW Cup.

Played really well against the Roosters and took on Latrell Mitchell's 130kg brother head on.

Not sure how he went last week against the Knights but I'm keen to see what he can do against men.

The North Sydney Bears/South Sydney Rabbits killed a poor Cutters team. That Ed Murphy is easily the best centre in the NSW Cup. I have seen him play 5 or 6 times now.

Well we have no forwards.

Maybe he will have to play forwards soon:roll::roll::roll::roll:

I like that one lol

I knew you would:cool:

Not a happy mood now re the players out. 6 forwards.

Soon we will be running out all Norths players if we continue at this rate.

Geez that Maxwell stuffed us up. What a disgraceful, one eyed, bias, major game influencing, smart arse performance from the merkin.

Seriously it was a disgrace.

I was in the Burrow and we couldn't believe our eyes.

What trash.

He must have been getting on the bus back to Kogarah.

Fair dinkum.

I can take a fair loss. But that was not fair at all.

The North Sydney Bears defeated the Illawarra Cutters 24-12 at WIN Stadium in Round 3 of the Intrust Super Premiership.
The home side was boosted by the inclusion of Kurt Mann who replaced Adam Quinlan at fullback.
The Cutters suffered a nightmare start when their kick off went out on the full and they were forced to defend early on. They survived the initial set but conceded a line drop out in the process and the Bears converted their opportunity into points when Ed Murphy caught a cross field kick and forced his way over. Eli Levido converted to make it 6-0 after 6 minutes.
The Bears marched down field from the kick off and another Cutters penalty nearly resulted in more points as the Bears fumbled the final pass with line wide open.
This gave the Cutters their first use of the ball and they made plenty of ground but a silly penalty at the end allowed the Bears an easy passage out of their own half.
The Cutters managed to hold them out but minutes later another error gave their opposition yet more field position but a shepherd ended the Bears’ attacking raid and the Cutters made their way down field courtesy of a much-needed penalty.
With the Cutters on the attack a Hutchinson cross field kick was safely defused but the Bears made an error coming out of their own end as the topsy turvy game continued with both sides guilty of poor discipline.
In the 22nd minute Bears winger Tavtalatasi Tasi took advantage of some lazy Cutters defence and dived on a grubber inches from the dead ball line to grab the Bears’ second. Levido converted to make it 12-0.
Three minutes later a Bears penalty gave the Cutters a great chance to score close to the line but remarkably it resulted in a try 80 metres down the other end of the field.
A wayward pass was scooped up by Tasi who raced away and the ball eventually made its way across field to Bears winger Tom Hughes who beat Kalifa Fai Fai Loa to score a fantastic team try. Levido missed the conversion attempt but the Bears enjoyed a 16-0 lead.
A forward pass in the 32nd minute ended another Cutters’ raid but the Bears followed this with an error of their own.
Another Cutters penalty put the Bears in great field position, and with just 2 minutes left in the half Levido stepped up and slotted the penalty goal over to make it 18-0.
The Cutters repelled the Bears early in the second half with a fine tackle that jolted the ball loose.
Damian Sironen made the Cutters’ first line break in the 44th minute but couldn't find any support and the play broke down and the Bears went close to scoring at the other end but the Cutters intercepted a long pass and went on the attack.
The Cutters appeared to score through winger Tom Carr in the 47th minute but some foul play involving Jake Marketo resulted in the try being denied and Marketo was placed on report for the incident.
The Cutters were denied again when Mann went over in the 52nd minute, this time for obstruction, but the Cutters looked to be the better side in the second half.
A mistake by the home side in the 56th minute put huge pressure on their defence and Hughes evaded several would be defenders to dive over out wide and score his second try of the match. Levido’s brilliant sideline conversion made it 24-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining.
A Bears error from the kick off presented a great opportunity for the Cutters who needed to score with time running out.
A Hutchinson long pass found Carr who tip toed down the sideline and dived over in the corner, a great display of athleticism by the young winger. Blake Wallace missed the conversion attempt and the home side trailed 24-4 with 18 minutes left.
Cutters centre Corey Brown latched onto a poor Bears pass in the 67th minute and showed great strength and pace to score the Cutters’ second try. Levi Dodd missed the conversion and the home side trailed 24-8
With just 4 minutes remaining rising star Jacob Host ran onto a sublime Hutchinson short ball to score his sides’ third try but Taane Milne missed the conversion and the Cutters trailed 24-12.

Mounties Pip Norths in Tight Affair

An explosive opening 15 minutes of the game by Mounties ultimately proved to be the difference, in what was a tough-fought 18-16 victory over the North Sydney Bears.
For the Bears, Eli Levido kept on fighting, and his attacking prowess inspired the men in black and red to get so close after a disastrous start.
Off the back of an early penalty, Mounties had the first opportunity to post points, but Eddie Aiono knocked on over the line despite an athletic effort off the back of a wonderful right-to-left shift.
Keen to take advantage of the field position after the scrambling effort by the Bears, they further cruelled themselves by giving away a questionable obstruction penalty just as they had entered the opposition half.
Mounties took full advantage of the penalty, striking first through a barnstorming Barnett, after he was a recipient of a perfect Lachlan Croker pass.
A sloppy play the ball by Clayton Williams on the halfway line meant Brad Dietz could not get a handle on the ball, causing the Bears to cough up possession again which gifted Mounties valuable field position.
Once again, Mounties took full advantage, as Buttriss skipped out of dummy half in the following set and threw a face-ball for Bateman to crash over next to the left upright to increase the lead to 10-0.
While the match began to even out after the incredibly dominant opening 15 minutes by Mounties, the Bears would be rueing their missed opportunities and ill-discipline in the opening half, having only had 43% of the ball and making 18 missed tackles compared to only seven by their opposition.
Trailing on the scoreboard, the Bears needed something to re-ignite, and a wonderful big-hit by the little halfback, Eli Levido, on Mitch Barnett in a David versus Goliath mis-match forced an error. Levido backed up his hit by putting in a smart kick into the in-goal on the end of the following set.
However, it was to no avail, and the score remained 10-0 until half-time with both teams having close try-scoring opportunities. Buttriss went close for Mounties while Cheyne Whitelaw was held up for the Bears after a barnstorming run towards the posts.
Mounties began the second half on the attack almost immediately, and Croker believed he had scored an incredible solo try, but he was ruled to have ran behind Jacob Mayer and they were called up for an obstruction.
A Levido show-and-go allowed him to run away, before a Sitiveni Moceidreke grubber kick forced a dropout to allow the Bears to build pressure.
Up until the 52nd minute, Mounties had an answer for everything the Bears threw at them, but off the back of the repeat set, Patrice Siolo reached over to score after a North Sydney wrap-around to post their first points of the afternoon.
Mounties bounced back 10 minutes later with an incredible athletic effort by Kato Ottio. Maurice Kennedy put in a pinpoint cross-field kick; before Ottio flew in the air and magically reeled the ball in before planting it down to increase their lead 16-6.
Immediately, the Bears responded, after Mounties made a crucial error off the kick-off, before Ed Murphy finished off a beautiful scrum play to slide over and score. Levido could not convert which meant the Bears trailed 16-10 with 14 minutes remaining.
Whitelaw gave away a crucial penalty with the ball, and while he was clearly distressed at the decision, it should have gifted Mounties two easy points, however Croker missed the seemingly simple shot at goal.
Off the 20-metre dropout, the Jack Gosiewski gave away a blocking penalty, which gave Kennedy a kick at goal, and he made no mistake to increase their lead to 18-10.
A late try to the Bears kept them optimistic about a late come-from-behind victory, but Mounties defence stuck strong which meant they came away with the important two-points.

Bears v Knights
Chatswood Oval, Sunday 3 April
Kick-off – 3:00pm
Reigning Premiers, the Newcastle Knights, finally kick-started their season defence last round with a stirring 22-14 comeback victory over the high-flying Wentworthville Magpies after trailing 14-0 midway through the second half, but they’ll need to kick it up another gear as they tackle a North Sydney Bears team motivated to return to the winners’ circle after falling 18-16 in a narrow loss to Mounties.
“It was a fairly high-quality match,” Bears coach Ben Gardiner told NSWRL.com.au.
“From our point of view, we put ourselves in a position at the end of the game where the game was there to be won by either team.”
The Knights broke through for their first win of the season and are determined to build on their victory against the 2-2 Bears who are still maturing as a side each week – a fact Gardiner appreciates as part of all levels of the game.
“We take it as a learning curve as we do every game,” said Gardiner.
“We got better as a team but when the pressure was on at the backend of the game their (Mounties) decision making was better than ours and leading into this week (our) guys in key positions would be better at. If they’re put under pressure again, the decisions they make are the right ones.
“That happens at an NRL level too.”
North Sydney have had to combat a number of line-up changes with players moving up to the Sydney Rabbitohs NRL side. However, it’s promising signs to come for both Rabbitohs and Bears fans.
“It’s not so challenging – we actually see that as a real positive for our club,” Gardiner said.
“We’ve had a few guys that have come from the Norths-contracted side to be the 18th man for the NRL squad for the last couple of weeks. We see that as a large positive for us as a club and what we’re doing in the background.”
It shapes as a captivating clash for two sides hungry for more success.
