Where the North Sydney Bears’ class of 1999 are now.

Where the North Sydney Bears’ class of 1999 are now.
They’re the 17 players who hold a strange yet important place in rugby league’s 117-year history.
On 28 August 1999, North Sydney Bears played their final game as a first grade side against the Cowboys, ending the foundation club’s storied history in the top flight competition.
North Sydney would go out fitting winners 28-18 - but what happened to the men who wore the famous red and black jersey for the last time?
From North Sydney’s last point-scorer to the last player to be sin-binned in a Bears jersey - we reveal where the 1999 Bears are 26 years later.

Since they will be the feeder club there should be a thread about what's going on with the club.

@Centy Coast probably is best poster to inform us?
At the moment it is just business as usual, no new news really, I haven’t really heard as yet what is happening next season as with NRL pathways, I haven’t heard Jersey Flegg mentioned, not sure about our connection to the Storm which is due to expire at the end of this season.

Surely we’d want to be stacking the NS nsw cup side next year with 20-22 years olds with potential to be in the 32 man 2027 squad?
is there anything to stop perth bears signing fringe players now and playing them in nsw cup next year?

I hope ns are out looking for young talent for hm and sg ball for next year with the enticement of a direct pathway to perth nrl Club.

This is related to a big problem for the Perth Bears … How much are you going to have to pay these bottom of the squad guys with potential to move across the country ? More than the minimum that they can get playing back East I would suggest ..

It’s actually an advantage PNG will have over Perth … they will have no end of cheap local guys to fill out the squad … Perth will need to import then at a premium ..

going to be tough to manage when they are also trying to attract some big money guys and will probably need to pay some overs there…

they should have been given a salary cap allowance in their first 5 years ..

at least a relocation allowance on the cap would have been sensible. Maybe rental paid for by club for first 2 years of contract as well. These min wage guys and youngsters need a bit more support imo.

Having said that I know when the Reds started up we brought across a couple of dozen young players and set them up with jobs etc we could look to do something similar. There's quite a few rich Rl fans here who run businesses that could offer them employment.

I think these days … even the bottom of the squad guys on the Top 30 and Train and Trials are expected to be full time …not sure they will have the time to work elsewhere … maybe they still might get paid anyway ? lol

I suspect the other guys lower on the totem pole will still be in Sydney with the North Sydney team ?

That is the usual set up for NRL clubs
