Raiders pair in casino fight
May 22, 2004

INJURED Canberra pair Luke Davico and Brad Drew will have to explain why they were fighting each other outside Casino Canberra in the early hours of this morning.

Davico (dislocated ribs) and Drew (shoulder) had withdrawn from the Raiders side to play Melbourne tonight after failing to pass fitness tests.

Raiders general manager, Don Furner, wasn't sure whether punches were thrown but he understood alcohol was a factor in the altercation.

"There was an argument and it was late at night and we've basically asked the players to come into the office tomorrow morning and we'll speak to both of them and get to the bottom of it," Furner told the ABC.

"They'll have to show cause, certainly to the coach and the board, why they were out drinking when they'd ruled themselves out through injuries."

No, there is one crime left on the list. If a player is found guilty of it, I'll give the game in. Lets just say it puts you at the top of everyones B*tch list at Silverwater...

Only need a murder charge now and we'll have had the lot then.
we have already had top grade players or former players go to jail for murder.
I think there is one going on at the moment with a former player.
We've had players do time in Thai jails, convicted of car theft, rape, embezzlement, assualt u name it.
It's all been done before.
what has changed is the medias pre-occupation with turning life & our favourite sport into a reality TV show.
As long as people keep criticising the players & not defending them as much as possible, they will also feed the media.
If we say what next, they will find what next, & give it to us.

i wouldn't give up on the game just because some players are bad / stupid / whatever. you wouldn't stop give up eating just somebody got food poisoning or quit driving because hitler had a car.

i mean there's plenty of crooked cops but by no means all of them and you'd still call the police if there was some kind of emergency.

not condoning what's going on, but imho it's the individuals who have to take responsibility for their own actions, not 'the game'.

btw i'm not surprised he's that desperate if that's the best effort 'booty call' gasnier can come up with - "spurt sauce" ? what a d*ckhead

Ive been told that two players on our current roster have punched on with each other on multiple occasions at bars and parties etc......

And what about Nathan Long and Mckenna (was it Mckenna?) going at it in the TAB a few years back?

Football is a violent game by nature, and its not played by brain surgeons, thats for sure. Players are always gonna fight each other. Always.

Chalk sees more sackings
May 23, 2004

MORE players from the NSW rugby league team are facing the sack as the fallout from a drunken bonding session continues.

Acting NSWRL chairman John Chalk said today that new allegations had been made against players relating to an incident in a car park on the night that led to Mark Gasnier and Anthony Minichiello being released from the Origin squad for unacceptable behaviour.

Further troubles were reported involving players at Kings Cross in the early hours of Wednesday morning, he said.

Asked about the possibility of more sackings, he replied: "I believe that could be the case.

"It depends on the information we get tomorrow. There has been a suggestion made by a member of the public that there was a problem in a car park with players ... just inappropriate behaviour, being foolish and stupid with a motor vehicle."

Chalk told Channel 7 the possible sackings would come from the five players who were fined last week: Willie Mason, Craig Gower, Trent Waterhouse, Craig Wing and Mark O'Meley.

He said NSW team manager Chris Johns was certain to lose his job tomorrow.

"We have a review meeting tomorrow and I'm sure that will happen."

Chalk agreed that giving the players $1,000 each in spending money for their bonding night had been a gross error in judgement.

"If you give a monkey a machine gun, he's going to play up.

"I don't say that with a lot of jest. I really believe that's another problem we need to look at. That will stop.

"I'd like to send them (the players) out to a boot camp somewhere and say, 'Listen, this is what the real people do in life. They get an average wage, they work very hard for their money, they don't get to race around in flash cars.'

"That's the part that really gets to me. They ignore the public who do so much and our stakeholders, like our sponsors, who put in so many dollars.

"Maybe they should go and get a real job."

NSW coach Phil Gould revealed in his newspaper column today that he would not coach the Origin team again after this series.

Another gutless f**k!!!
Get a real job!!!
You know what one of the biggest markets in Australia is?
the auto market & the performance auto market is one which has gone through enormous growth over the last 7 years.
Real people love stuffin around & having fun with cars too & I'm one of them.
I wish Ihadthe money to get an exotic like some of these guys.
If Chalk has got social resentment ot people earning lots of money then he should go & work for the government somewhere.
Its a simple case of Rugby league players can't be normal people anymore & for this burden they get paid a pittance.
It is f**king disgraceful!!!!
Chalk should be the one standing down for ruining incentives for people to play League & for not defending the players to the hilt.
Gutless, gutless, hanger onerers.

Fair go Boo, 'The Bra' ain't THAT bad. There's plenty of good things about, you just have to know what and where they are. The Casino isn't one of them however, nor are The Faders.

I work about 50 meters away from the Casino and there is always nearly a pile or two of hardened vomit on the pavement you have to sidestep on a Monday morning.

I'm guessing Davico and Drew are vying for the captaincy, and went the knucke after seeing what a great career move it was for Lance Thompson...

I remember smack on's at in our team. No big deal, when everyone is sober its back to being mates and killing oppositions.

It certainly had nothing to do with any example or otherwise the proffesionals were showing. It was just blokes with a belly full being blokes with a bellyfull.

The media is out of control.

So whats new.
