So it looks that at least for the immediate future the salad days are over. The Warriors struggled for years, we had a couple of seasons as a top club, and now we're struggling again. One thing is becoming clear already, we are going to find out who our real friends are very quickly. Particularly in the Union-mad NZ media who have sucked up to the team for the last few seasons solely because we were winning against the Aussies. How quickly we forget.
Take a look at today's herald columns by Graeme Lowe and Peter Jessup. Jessup proves to be the lightweight fairweather fan that he is by laying into all and sundry at the club. He was happy to jump on the bandwagon for the last few years (Warriors by 2 anyone?) but the gist of his current article seems to be "we liked you for a bit but you've turned out to be crap just like we always though you were".
Lowe by contrast actually attempts some constructive criticism. As an ex-coach his take on Andersons departure seems pretty balanced and doesn't go pointing fingers at all involved. He actually attempts to suggest solutions, rather than just putting the boot in. Whatever you think of Lowe he loves the game amd genuinely cares for it.
I expect more of this in the nerar future. Certain idiots on this side of the ditch will pronbably start calling for us to be axed from the competition again. And the rest of the media will put the boot in with glee. But screw them, we've been through this before and we can do it again. We know who our real friends are.
