NRL 2010 Grand Final tickets

I didn't get an email from Storm about finals tickets - maybe because it would be a bit like rubbing salt into it, but I do know fans who have been going every year for many years. It was ironic that when I checked my email the NRL email has been sent straight to my junk folder.

I have been to the grand final for 6 years in a row now (ever since 2004) and I don't really care about scalpers tbh. You have more than enough chance to get a ticket, and i'm sick to death of hearing bandwagon fans complaining about missing out, when in fact they have probably attended 1 club game all year, if that. If your team is going good at this time of the year, or if you are an NRL fan in general, grab a ticket. If not, you can always use the members priority window the week of the grand final if you are a big enough fan to be a season ticket holder. Otherwise you can always pay some poor bugger who's team bombed out $1000 for your ticket because you jumped on the bandwagon a few weeks ago. I loved the fact that I knew people last year who paid $4000 for 5 seats to the grand final sitting in the clouds on level 6 in ANZ stadium, only to see the eels lose. Best thing was they didn't attend a single game prior to that in 2009.

It's not practical for supporters of all teams to just 'grab a ticket'. It is a huge amount of money - $60 for the cheapest ticket - to commit on speculation. There is a big chance that plenty of genuine supporters miss out on tickets because they do not want to gamble of their team making it this far out from October, and might miss out on the tickets held back until GF week.

The system the NRL ought to implement is one whereby season ticket holders pay a nominal amount - $5, say - as an 'insurance policy' of sorts. So if your team makes the GF, you are 100% guaranteed a ticket. If not, your $5 goes towards processing fees etc. That way, the NRL can hold back as many tickets as necessary (it would not be much more than the current 14,000 they hold back until GF week) and true supporters can sleep easy knowing they have a rolled-gold ticket waiting for them if their team qualifies.

Anyone who isn't a season ticket holder deserves no special treatment. They can join the dogfight for tickets with bandwagoners etc. You either support your club by buying a season ticket, and are entitled to certain privileges, or you don't. At the moment, even with a season ticket, proper supporters aren't given enough of a piggy back over the flood of casual September fans that drive demand for tickets.

The point is that it is a rugby league event. I've gone for the last 9 years (all bar one from memory) and I can tell you every year without fail I see a jersey of every club in the crowd. I'm not phased if my team isn't there (although it is preferable :p), it's an awesome day with plenty of atmosphere and emotion. Love it.

You're forgetting that alot of students, unemployed and people with larger families to take care of might follow the game and dont necessarily have the 'luxury' to just pay a minimum of $60 for a ticket when there's a slim chance that their team might make the finals. You alluded to an eels fan so i'll respond to that. YOU SHOULD KNOW YOURSELF that when grandfinal tickets came out, the chance of parra making the finals was very very slim. I myself didnt purchase a grandfinal ticket when they just came out. That doesnt make me a bandwagon supporter, it just makes me someone who was being realistic at the time.

I'm a Bulldogs supporter, we have a less than 5% chance of making the Grand Final right now. I was probably the fourth or fifth person to buy tickets when they were made available.

I love your defence of the bandwagon claim though, as if someone has directly called you one.

For the record, the Eels were one of the teams with the largest representations of sales in the initial pre-sales on Tuesday.

I can't believe they sold tickets to anyone, what a f**king joke. That's one of the huge advantages of becoming a member, you get first dibs.

Anyway I've got mine. Can always sell them later if the Tigers don't make it.

I didn't get the email with the code required to buy tickets, but thought I would take my chances anyway and try over the phone and had no problem getting one, aisle 110

They also do the annual buyback don't they?

So St George and Parra fans can return their unwanted tickets?
