on 1.2M a year for 5 yrs (though someone (Elias) on NRL 360 last night said he was on 1.4M lol)
Over five years it’s certainly realistic that it might be $1.2M this year and $1.4M in 2029, with whatever graduations in between.
So he has a get out clause, basically can start negotiating from nov1 for 2027 season and beyond

Wonder if we would be interested if we havent got a clear direct of by rd 27 (not for 1.2M, but for around 750-800k)
Under a $12M+ salary cap there’s no way you’re getting a player of his calibre for less than a million. If he’s willing to play for a desperate club he can (and currently does) get even more.

The panel all luv what Ryles is doing, wins irrelevant

We believe the panel tonight right ? 😉😁
To be fair, any results this season is now irrelevant. This is a coach that has been given free licence to do whatever the f**k he wants with a squad, and he has done it all in the first year.

However, this wont be tolerated after this one season honeymoon. Starting from next season, results will determine how long he remains the coach. If the team doesn't deliver next season then he won't actually be around to see what's he is setting out to achieve.

What do you mean 'done it all'? I doubt he's even close to being happy about where the squad is at. Why would he be when the rest of us aren't?
Done it all, as done all the breaking everything up and starting again.

He'll only get one opportunity do this, he won't be allowed do it again if it doesn't work out the first time.

Rebuild isn’t even close to being finalised.

Surprised how confidently you are talking about him being shown the door etc. We stuck with the last guy for 11 years. Most people thought that was far too long.

What makes you think we are suddenly going to start chopping and changing coaches every few years? Is there a single team in the comp that has had sustained success over the last 20 years adopting that approach?

Correct. Ryles is here for the long haul.

Such the overhaul, Id say he has 80-90% of the squad he wants.

Important positions are just about secured

Wouldnt be surprised if no6 is the only jigsaw he needs to address, 3 of the 4 spine are settled

I dont care about finals footy next year, but want to see improvement, no reason why we wont, or is that too much to ask?

Then come 2027, he should have the full squad he wants, and a good shot at finals.

Brad Arthur took us to a whisker of finals in his first year, that was after Ricky blew the place up and got rid of 10 players the year before. Should be a similar result with Ryles next year..

To Ryles defence he did inherit a relatively crap roster. Having made the cuts as fast as he could this year unfortunately for fans mean we probably dont see all the benefits till 2027. Yes we got some great young players who will develop but pretty hard to do a full roster turnaround in a year. Still would love a key forward signing but alas not many players id want who are meant to be FAs in 2026

That’s fair PB.

I think he has a squad he can work with and needs to supplement. However, a number of the existing players, including youngsters are being asked to play a certain way and the jury is still out on whether they’ll meet the challenge.

I expect the squad that JR will be coaching in 2027 to look quite different to the one we have now.

I think we should be aiming to finish between 6th and say 11th - with improvements evident, and reflected by our table position.

And yes, 2027 reaching finals or GTFO.

I didn't say the rebuild was finalised, I said he's blown the joint up in year 1.

The circumstances were different with the previous guy. He came to the Club when the club was in a similar position to where the Tigpies are now. We improved steadily in his first few years, then the salary cap thing happened and he was a big part of keeping the club together. I don't believe we had two poor seasons in a row during his tenure until the last two years, when he was shown the door half way through a second poor season.

We're not going from a low base like the Tigpies, who can probably afford to give a favourite son more time. We were grand finalists in 2022, just outside the Top 8 in 2023, bottom 4 in 2024, likely bottom 4 in 2025...there is no way being bottom 4 at the end of next season should be tolerated by this club, nor will it be tolerated by the media.

He's being given his honeymoon period...it won't continue next season, nor should it.

Virtually everyone has got great young kids who will develop. Why are ours any special?

Because we learnt our lesson in regards to keeping Brad for over a decade with nothing to show
