What if he wins 2 wooden spoons?Big difference between 11 years and a 4 year contract. Ryles will see out the four years and get an extension if he deserves it, he won't be sacked after 2 years.

If you think the lesson that we learnt was that we should chop n’ change then I can’t help you.Because we learnt our lesson in regards to keeping Brad for over a decade with nothing to show
Not chip and change, just held accountable, how long do u give Ryles to perform? If you think the lesson that we learnt was that we should chop n’ change then I can’t help you.
He will get at least 4 years and that’s fine.
Just asserting again. I get that it’s your opinion, but I think your opinion is flawed. You have no idea what the club thinks and whether they will arsehole him within 2 years and shouldn’t state your opinion as fact.I didn't say the rebuild was finalised, I said he's blown the joint up in year 1.
The circumstances were different with the previous guy. He came to the Club when the club was in a similar position to where the Tigpies are now. We improved steadily in his first few years, then the salary cap thing happened and he was a big part of keeping the club together. I don't believe we had two poor seasons in a row during his tenure until the last two years, when he was shown the door half way through a second poor season.
We're not going from a low base like the Tigpies, who can probably afford to give a favourite son more time. We were grand finalists in 2022, just outside the Top 8 in 2023, bottom 4 in 2024, likely bottom 4 in 2025...there is no way being bottom 4 at the end of next season should be tolerated by this club, nor will it be tolerated by the media.
He's being given his honeymoon period...it won't continue next season, nor should it.
At least 3 years, possibly 4.Not chip and change, just held accountable, how long do u give Ryles to perform?
Ryles in my view inherited a much superior squad than BA and chose to immediately dismantle it. That was his choice. Also, do you get how it’s contradictory to point out that a team will finish bottom 4-6 this year and also suggest that the coach inherited a superior squad to BA.
You are having a bet each way.
If we win the Spoon this year and next year, do you think Ryles still makes it to year 3?Just asserting again. I get that it’s your opinion, but I think your opinion is flawed. You have no idea what the club thinks and whether they will arsehole him within 2 years and shouldn’t state your opinion as fact.
I expressed my reservations about JR last year and was met with a wave of criticism from people who said I was negative (which is ironic).
I think we will stick with him for more than 2 years and consider your ultimatum stuff a bit silly at this point.
What we did wasn’t working and was never going to work as much as I hoped it would.Ryles in my view inherited a much superior squad than BA and chose to immediately dismantle it. That was his choice.
Ryles chose to ostracise and immediately offload two players (Gutho, RCG) with over 400 games of NRL experience between them, who were our Captain and Player of the Year from the previous year and not replace them.
As well as this, he chose to offload another 200 NRL games of experience (Joffa). Admittedly he was replaced fairly quickly (Walker) with a different style of player.
From an outsider looking in, he effectively also chose to ostracise three further players with close to another 600 NRL games experience (Cartwright, Lane and Matterson). Now they, like the first two, may not have bought into the Ryles dream...but the reality is, the essence of a coaches job is to improve the players at their disposal. I believe he gave up on these three without even really trying.
In my view, Ryles actions destined this team to be bottom 6, not the actual squad he inherited. Moses injuries further made those decisions the sqaud a Wooden Spoon contender.
Now, I'm ok with Ryles choices, if it eventuates in just one year in the bottom 6 and then a return to the Top 8.
BA on the other hand inherited a team that had won the previous two Wooden Spoons...if The Plane hadn't played in those teams, those teams could potentially have not even won a game!
Give it a rest with your stupid unlikely hypotheticals and discuss the issue based on the most likely outcome. If we win the Spoon this year and next year, do you think Ryles still makes it to year 3?
I agree with all of this. I felt the previous bloke's ability held the previous squad back and he should've been punted at the end of 2018...What we did wasn’t working and was never going to work as much as I hoped it would.
BA had his time and we needed someone to gut the joint. Anyone suggesting we should have stuck with something that wasn’t working is not arguing in good faith.
I was painted at nut hugger for many years, but even I started to recognise we needed change.
Is JR the saviour? Maybe not, but I made my comments before he started and am now on board.
Unlikely? You dont think there is any chance of us winning the spoon both this and next year?Give it a rest with your stupid unlikely hypotheticals and discuss the issue based on the most likely outcome.
I could equally say, what if we go on a winning streak at the end of the season and make the Top 4 next year. Why put forward bullshit?
So why are you being Captain Negative? Let him get his feet under the desk. No point pissing and moaning about a year of transformation when our best player has been largely absent.I agree with all of this. I felt the previous bloke's ability held the previous squad back and he should've been punted at the end of 2018...
I'm also all onboard with Ryles and what he has chosen to do...I hope his decisions lead to improved results. I suspect it will.
But, if this doesn't lead to improved results then he ultimately has to be accountable for that.
You are contradicting yourself. BA apparently inherited worse, but now we are the worst squad in the comp?Unlikely? You dont think there is any chance of us winning the spoon both this and next year?
The most likely outcome is that we're bottom 6 at best this year and next.
My view is that we now have the worst squad in the NRL. Why wouldn't we run last this year and next?
Because there is a vast difference between the squad Ryles inherited and the current squad of players. He's let go of a significant amount of NRL games of experience since he got here and is yet to replace them all. Hence why it's presently the worse squad in the comp. You are contradicting yourself. BA apparently inherited worse, but now we are the worst squad in the comp?
I don’t really understand what you are arguing at this point.
Just cool your jets for at least 12 months.
Its why Ryles needs 3 years.Rebuild isn’t even close to being finalised.
Surprised how confidently you are talking about him being shown the door etc. We stuck with the last guy for 11 years. Most people thought that was far too long.
What makes you think we are suddenly going to start chopping and changing coaches every few years? Is there a single team in the comp that has had sustained success over the last 20 years adopting that approach?
Dumb. What position did we finish last year?Because there is a vast difference between the squad Ryles inherited and the current squad of players. He's let go of a significant amount of NRL games of experience since he got here and is yet to replace them all. Hence why it's presently the worse squad in the comp.
I suspect it will improve with a couple of signings for 2026. We can live in hope anyway.
Okay, very concerning though as he appears to be putting his eggs in one basket, relying on juniors coming through and moneyball signings, if that is his plan, we will never compete with the top sides, leaving us where? I hope I’m eating lots of humble pie in the near futureAt least 3 years, possibly 4.
He is signed for 4 years.
I'm predicting traffic will be worse and he'll be closer to 9 min away in 2028.We might need to being back BA in 2028 if we have 3 dud years under Rylsey..
BA will hardly know most players, lives 7min away, experienced and is great at rebuilding a club..
Perfect imo...
That's fair.Its why Ryles needs 3 years.
If you give him 3 years and were still bottom 4 then clearly the rebuild hasn't worked and were going to have to look in another direction.
Its not like the quality of coaches around atm is that awesome.
Flanagan & Hasler 2 x premiership winning coaches have gone in and looked for short term fixes at there current jobs and its failed for Des and failing for Flanno.
