NRL and AFL team similarities.

I was explaining AFL teams to my mate last night who knows nothing about AFL and comparing all the teams with the NRL teams. This is what I came up with. ( I am very bored at work today)

Collingwood - Roosters. - Both these teams have money coming out their Arses and are the team everyone loves to hate. Both teams have been to the Grand Final twice since 2002 and choked

Essondon - Bulldogs - Have very loyal supporters and are arch rivals with collingwood. Some would say the Bulldogs and roosters are developing this too.

Carlton - Souths - Both teams have a proud history but have been absolutley sh*thouse in recent years.

Swans - Melbourne Storm - Both are the only teams in their state and are very competitve every season. There is little interest shown to these teams in their home state as the other code dominates there. Both teams tend to slip under the media radar untill finals time.

Geelong - Newcastle - Both teams are about 1-2 hours from the major city and the whole city gets behind them. Their supporters are very fanatical and the team is idolised in thier city.

Western Bulldogs - West Tigers - both teams are out west and are starting to become a real force in their respective competitions. The Western Bulldogs should really be top 4 contenders next year.

St Kilda - Dragons - Both known as the Saints and are always competitive. Both teams with large fan bases and have a large number of memebers/season ticket holders.

Birsbane Loins - Brisbane Broncos - Both the only teams from the region in their comp and have only been in the comp for a reasonably short time. Both have been extremeley successfull in their short time in the comp.

Parramatta eels - Richmond - Both have not won a premiership since the 80's .Both are about the same distance from the city and approx the same amount of fans in proportion to the rest of the league.

Kangaroos - Raiders - Both were very successfull in the 90's but have now come back to the feild. Both teams always seam to make the finals every year without doing anything spectacular. Kangaroos play some home games in Canberra.

I have left Adelaide and WA teams out as the NRL does not have teams that fit this category. I guess you could say that WA teams and the Warriors are similar because of the distance from everyone else and the relatively successfull nature of the clubs.

If anyone has any more similarities please add.

When I think of the Bulldogs, fan loyalty isn't the first thing I think of.. Salary Cap cheating, poor player behaviour, even worse crowd behaviour come to mind.. They have loyal fans for sure but like alot of teams they only appear when they are winning..

i would compare st kilda with the sharks, both have been around for a long time but have very little success. st kilda have 1 under their belt but took them 50 years.

the dragons could instead be compared to the demons

If you take into account all of those things (salary cap, player behaviour, crowd behaviour) the Bulldogs must have very loyal fans.

They've been through hell over the last few years and still turn up and support their team. As for only appearing when they're winning they have the third highest average attendance this season with 18k.

Anyway, that's not really the point of this thread.

AFL - Governing body of a sport for limp-wristed shirtlifters.
NRL - Governing body of a sport for men.

I don't see too much similar there?

Yep, you might in 10 days as then both teams will then have won just the one premiership.

How dare you compare the Bombers to the Bulldogs! Bulldogs are more like a collage American Football team.

Have been to both but only on hollidays to Melbourne. I thought richmond was about 1/2 hour from the city? I stand corrected

Richmond in Melbourne is about 5km from the centre of the city.
Richmond train station is the station to use to get to the MCG

Fair enough, they still have their similarities. Both havn't won a comp since the 80's and this year has been a big turn around for both clubs.
