El: the history continues... the facts are there. But if you want to be with the mob who are embarrassed by their overall record against the Dragons, then I can understand your reason for wanting to re-start history.
The history between our clubs started in 1947.
Since 1999, however, we haven't beaten you. That pretty record will be broken next year...

We may have onlywon 35% against Saints but we have a 70% record against Illawarra.
We'll see what happens.

Blue & Gold, I think you're referring to the other thread... I know you're right but I'm allowed to make a wish aren't I? Imagine that... a club with a CEO who wants to fight for acompetitive team, a better club and a satisfied supporter base... can hardly wait till Xmas morning...

El Duque: There is only one history and it continues. This is despite what the re-writers of history say.
We can still look at the NSWRL comp as it was and continue that history. If we restart the history of St George then IMO, we must also restart the premiership history. The NRL was formed out of the SL v ARL / NSWRL 'war' and the clubs were given ultimatums. These demands were based on criteria which evolved from Super League.
The NRL is the offspring of thissquabble and has chosen to adopt the NSWRL history - they can't have it both ways.

I agree wholeheartedly willow, don't worry they are only starting that argument because their teams have terribly records against Saints, but what can they expect, we are the greatest team in the history of world sport (except for maybe that polish soccer team)

I am just dissapointed we can't beat Souths in the competition until round 19, beating them in the charity shield will have to keep me satisfied until then

I'm not quiet with you here. You sound like your just coming from a St. George side.
Are you discounting Illawarra as part of your team and despite the merger you're really just St George and you adopt all their history and Illawarra is irrelevant?
Maybe I read it wrong but that's what I thought you were saying.

Always happy to explain my position on this. In fact, I invite debate on what I see as an unresolved issue.
Iam a St George supporter but I am not anti-Illawarra. When the joint venture happened, Illawara fans thought they were gaining the proud history of the Dragons.
Many St George supporters, like myself, saw the merger as a 'reunification' of the two districts. Prior to 1982, the two areas were 'kindred spirits'. Saints had achieved much thanks to the huge backyard of the Illawarra district. The list of Illawarra juniors who ended up playing for St George is quite large. My all time favourite player, Graeme Langlands is a Wollongong lad. There is no denying the enormous contribution of the Illawarra region to St George.
A proper history of St George will give credit to the Steelers who had their own first grade team between 1982 -1998.
Unfortunately, circumstances demanded that Illawarra had to reunify or perish.
Afterwhich, the St George history should never have been compromised.
