Any talk of our final being switched to Eden Park died a quick death, thankfully.

Mt Smart is our only hope for an upset. We should grow an extra arm and leg. Dallin might grow a few more defensive brain cells.

The Storm would never consider switching to the MCG, but they'd make more money.

Mahoney dropped from the Dogs 17. Ciraldo/Gould have lost the plot in the 2nd half of the season. They may have felt they are a year or 2 ahead of schedule, but this comp has developed into a wide open one that is there for the taking and they have sabotaged themselves

Yeah I think it's fair to say the Dogs can be criticised for having more than one eye to the future, past 2025. But I guess we can only say that in October.

I don't think there's another club in the comp that would get to 1st on the ladder, then drop half the spine that had got them there and then allow them to look elsewhere for contracts.

Reed Mahoney is the one that gets me. Gus in May, said Mahoney should start at hooker for the Maroons to allow Harry to come on later with tired bodies in front of him...then Mahoney wasn't even starting for the Dogs mere weeks later, and isn't in their side at all now.

Matty Johns saying week 1 1995, Raiders and Broncos played each other as well, with the Raiders getting up 12-8. Both heavyweight sides stretching the salary cap back then

Without looking that up, I reckon I can still picture Bradley Clyde going 50m on his own to score

Hayward is really good though, and maybe Mahoney is not the best bench option

He’d be a solid signing for a lot of clubs though….

Cows have got him haven't they.. and yea, he's a solid score for them after losing Robson.

Write up on fox.sports today... apparently someone at the Dogs reckons their communication suffers when he comes on. Unless he's kicking stones, that feels like bollocks.

Thursday, the calm before the storm. Just quietly going about our lives...but we know what's coming!

Mahoney doesn't seem the type to sit down quietly. I reckon the Dogs have turmoil in the camp.

I’m sure the initial post is all tongue in cheek, well you’d hope so anyway lol, but you also know there will be people out there with an IQ lower than Egans jersey number that think it will be a great idea
This is horse shit, I hate it. Even if it was meant to be tongue in cheek, some people will take it seriously and it's shit. Rubbish. I don't want to be associated as a fan with this sort of bottom-feeding crap

Code sports reporting today that NAS was shopped to the Warriors…

“The future of Storm forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona in Melbourne continues to be a discussion point after it emerged that the Warriors were asked whether they harboured any interest in the powerhouse New Zealander.
Sport Confidential was told that a third party contacted the Warriors asking whether they would be open to taking Asofa-Solomona.

It is understood the Warriors were scared off by Asofa-Solomona’s price tag - he is on a contract worth more than $800,000 a season at the Storm.”

If the Storm genuinely want to move him on they’ll have to front some hurt money. At 800k and with his record he’d be a hard sell, but at 600k… there’s a few clubs that could do with some size upfront.

It was palpable relief more than celebration, I reckon. Twenty-four years was a living nightmare and the following RWC win was the one when we really celebrated.

I'm enjoying union taking over this thread right now, as I'm thinking about Saturday with a feeling of increasing tension, mostly dread, but some nervous excitement too. I certainly feel 'alive'!

Do you have a HB Magpies jersey? (I'm not trying to sell you one, I don't have one). I'm scouring the net for a Manawatu jersey, but it's not easy to match size, price and era (I want a collar, or at least a partial one). It's always a beautiful design though, that famous green and white.

Wednesday, lunchtime. Just over 72 hours till kick-off at Mt Smart.
I don't like any of the jerseys you can buy these days. I still have an old playing jersey (with a collar) a mate gave me and some hoodies/t shirts.

As a Magpies fan I see no beauty in a Poo jersey myself but I hope you're successful in finding one.

I don't want NAS for a dollar.

I watched Craig Bellamy's doco the other night (decent watch) and the grub gets suspended twice in the same doco, for the same thing. And I saw him elbow a guy live a few weeks back, then get suspended again following that.

No thanks. Let the Titans or someone else desperate grab for him

Game day, beyond excited to go to the Storm Dogs tonight and watch our opponent for next week...

I just can't stop thinking that the Dogs, despite how Gus might be seen as the Godfather and Ciraldo as the next super coach, that they might look back on this year as the year they got too clever. Like a golfer who shoots his best ever score, but keeps changing his swing because there's a few more strokes out there.

It's bloody hard to make finals and if Crichton blew his knee out next year, they arguably become a fringe top 8 side, as much as they'd tell you they can cover any player. I think they might look back at this and see that five year plans are all well and good, but sometimes it's just about winning the one that's in front of you when it presents itself.

And you're going in your team's gear, who are still quite alive in the competition. How good? It's September remember!

I think if they make a prelim final, that could be considered a good year.

Especially if they perform well in that game, and beat Melb tonight, or Penrith next week (assuming they get over us) to get there. They're a couple of finals-hardened teams and beating either of them in a final is a strong result for anyone.

But yea.. if they exit in straight sets, the knives will be out and deservedly so.
