NRL for ever young

Never in the history of human endeavor has there been a more exceeding apt name:

If the NRL must stand for

nothing really left

because lets face it, the newspapers are often too kind.

We have clubs with no money, no crowds, embarrassments, losing players to other sports.

The flip side is that clubs are really trying to change but its all too late by many peoples guess,

some clubs in sydney will move eventually, or fall to the level below nrl

its inevitable.

brisbane will get a second team

how do people feel about this? The comp was raped and pillaged 10 years ago, and its happening again.

what more can rugby league give?

Had to laugh in a sort of melancholy end of the world way reading the paper today and all the positive news comng out of the AFL:

More talk of their expansion into Gold Coast and West Sydney

Looking at building a 25,000 seat stadium for Melbourne due to the expansion of the game with teh xtra rounds from the two new teams

Mars looking at sponsoring AFL in Tasmania to the tune of $4mill which the AFL will use to ensure AFL is number one code there

Geez not much different to the stories about RL is it?

The key to big revenue in sport is Sydney, now would there be any coincidence that the media are constantly attacking league in Sydney to create a negative perception and feeling that the game is dieing in this city, trying to get us to move our clubs out which will only create more negativity. Guess who wins? There is definately an agenda there, a re-engineering if you like.

If league is dieing because we average 16,000 a game then union died a long time ago because no-one watches their club games.

rl has a lot of work to do

and part of that is to get rid of all this denial in its fans. sheesh!

Yeah so much denial, thus why the boards are full of threads about improving the game, and the footy show kicked arse in the ratings when they did a show about the state of the game.

League is in a good position, it just needs to map out where it's going.

And that involves, balance between expansion and strengthening our game in Sydney which is our biggest asset, one which other sports like AFL want.

While I don't want to see my team die, I would be able to swallow it almost if News was to piss off in the process.

Fact is, however screwed the comp, management, clubs etc are now, no matter how many clubs we scapegoat and crucify, the admin is going to continue to rape and pillage whatever clubs remain.

So, no I don't want sh*tty mergers, I don't want to be singing with the very fans I've hated for so long. No its not the answer. We need to make things work as is, or do as soccer has done in Australia and scrap all the crap we have and start again. Eventually the product will speak for itself.

BLAH BLAH FARKIN BLAH! Did you not listen to the Gallop statement? Do you not understand that reducing Sydney teams at this stage will kill NRL faster? Do you not understand we must maintain our current fan base not alienate them? Do you not understand we have to protect what we have from other codes not hand it to them?

You are a doom and gloom merchant. All this had been discussed in these threads at length why don't you express your opinion in those threads.

Expansion will come as and when we can generate the interest, support and finances in the centres where we need to expand. Sydney teams may well merge or die in time but that will not happen at whim for a change. The Sydney clubs have time to work on cementing their futures and if they do, good luck to them.

piss off troll. What a stupid meaningless post, wrapped up in fake 'concern' for RL. If you want to contribute something constructive fine, but dont come here and just try to sink the boot in just because you've read something to death ride us about and thought you'd come and have a gloat at our expense.
