NRL Grand Final - Authorised scalpers

If an individual buys an excessive number of tickets, or even 1, and then sells that at a profit they are tagged a scalper.

Yet the NRL sells tickets to travel companies - thousands of tickets - and the only purpose of these companies is to scalp them at a profit.

Despite the pre-sales hoopla, many ticketed members were unable to get decent tickets. Yet the tickets they were denied can still be purchased through travel companies at a grossly inflated price.

It is nothing more than authorised corporate scalping at the direct expense of individuals who want to go to the game.

perhaps the nrl sells tickets to these companies at a premium?

if so, I have no issue.

If not, i agree with you

No. But I heard the call & TK just blew the guy off. The caller had a legitimate point - he is a red V member who tried to buy tickets back when they were released in July. he was told the only tickets available were Cat C seating & up in the nose-bleed section.

He then finds out this week that he can get decent ticktets - but only if he buys them off a travel company who wants to charge him $70 per ticket extra.

These tickets were made available to the company - but not to the fan direct.

In other words, it is organised scalping. If you or I wanted to do this we'd be castigated, yet these companies get an inside run on the best seats available. It's not just the NRL who allows this - but this is a good example of the problem.

Something in the ballpark of 40,000 of the 83,500 GF tickets are held aside for corporates, travel groups etc etc. Being average joe trying to get a GF ticket sucks.

The corporates I can understand - it would be perfect for many businesses to take clients to the GF. And tragically, in financial terms, the corporate dollar is the lynchpin of the modern game.

But the travel group thing is just condoned gouging. (Although, are these travel companies sponsors? - might make a bit of sense - a bit of a contra deal perhaps)

You sir are a racist.

Thank you. Kind of you to say so.

Regarding the issue at hand, I would say that if the company pours money into the competition by way of sponsership during the regular season, then I don't really have a problem with them buying up the tickets in advance and then on-selling them at a later date.

The benefits to the game in general are greater than the detriments to individual fans on the actual day.

Without sponsers the game would not be able to survive. Plus corporate companies buying these tickets ensure that the game is a sell out well in advance of the actual day.

I know that fans end up paying a premium at the back end but $70 is a small price to pay for the once in a blue moon that your team actually gets to a Grand Final.

I wouldn't go that far tbh... travel companies might sell the tickets at a higher price but there are normally inclusions on top of the GF ticket that allow them to up the price, are there not?

Speaking of freedom what do you guys think about Freedom furniture? Is it better quality than say Fantastic Furniture? I know it has more street cred with the style Police. But i it better?

Fantastic furniture is better tasting than Fantastic Noodles but not as comfortable as sitting in a bath filled with them.
