They've been doing it every second year for ages, that was my point.

The SFS/ANZ game on 25 April will come out of the Kogarah allocation. It has done so every other time Saints have been the host of the ANZAC Day game. There is a contract in place between the Wollongong Sportsground Trust and the club that guarantees WIN Stadium six regular season games plus one trial per year.

Conceivably this could be altered for this year as part of the alternate arrangements to accomodate construction but I'd be suprised. To say that "even without the construction news" this game would come out of the Wollongong column is simply wrong.

They've been doing it every second year for ages, that was my point.

You claim that, but lets actually look at your point. It has been held regularily since 2002.

Its only been a Dragons home match on 2 occasions: 2002 and 2008. It has been a chooks home game every other occasion.

2002, SFS was the Dragons home while Jubi was getting worked on and was used for the ANZAC game.

Note, 2004 and 2006 were not St George home ANZAC matches, which were requested of the NRL by the chooks to be home games, hence my questioning weather a home venue swap could acomodate it in 2010.

2008 ANZ was Dragons Sydney home due to construction work, and was where the ANZAC match was held. I remember people whinging about it at the time, and Doust saying tough luck, the club comes first, and that he said it would possibly be held at Kogarah in future, at which some people fired up, causing Gallop to make the statement: "umm".

Heres a recent article on this thorny issue:
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,,25367290-5003409,00.html
April 21, 2009

ROOSTERS chief executive Steve Noyce has called on the Dragons to abandon their home-ground advantage and permanently move the Anzac Day match to the SFS.
It is always a point that raises heated discussion - especially after the match was played at ANZ Stadium last year for the first time - and the debate about the venue for the iconic fixture continued yesterday.
The SFS will host it this Saturday because it is a Roosters home game, but it remains uncertain where the game will be held next year. Dragons chief executive Peter Doust would not rule out another controversial move to Homebush, which outraged fans and war veterans alike when they were forced to make the long trek to the game after the George St Anzac Day march.
It could also be played at one of the Dragons' home venues, Jubilee Oval at Kogarah or WIN Stadium in Wollongong.
another 2008 article which mentions it:
http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/tale-of-two-stadiums/2008/04/25/1208743251801.html

So no, they haven't been doing it for every second year for ages. It has been managed up untill now by careful sheduling by the NRL, and exploiting St George's stadium issues but could be at SFS, Kogarah, WIN or ANZ. You can't assume it will be at the SFS.

On the agreement to play games at WIN, the contract would hardly be binding if the Stadium was unavailable for part of the season, which becomes an easy fix for this issue in 2010, but what will happen next time the Dragons draw it as a home? (I'm hoping Jubilee is getting redeveloped further and it can be easily moved, and that a flow of government money being spent on the club becomes the norm...)

There is a similar expectation for 6 home games to be played at Kogarah, especially since the State and Federal governments have spent millions on the joint.

Not as simple as it seems this stadium sharing deal. I love that you can get in for free at this game if you have medals or are in uniform though... I just take mine in my pocket, wave em like a ticket and get in... gold...

2004 and 2006 weren't "not Dragons home games" because you say so. They were Dragons home games, and they were transferred to the SFS. Later in both years, if they were swapped as you claim, they would've been played at Kogarah or WIN. They were played at the SFS and SCG respectively.

The bottom line is that ANZAC should be and probably WILL be at the SFS.

Mate. You're wrong as wrong can be.

1. ANZAC Day 2004 and 2006 were Dragons home games. No question about it. Zero. Zilch. Nada. In both seasons Dragons had 11 games at Wollongong and Kogarah (2004 was 7 Wollongong, 4 Kogarah under the old contract between Saints and the WSGT, 2006 was 6 Wollongong, 5 Kogarah). The season ticket included admission to the ANZAC Day game (which has never been the case for an odd year ANZAC Day game). The Dragons were listed first in the program and the draw for the ANZAC Day game. It was a Dragons home game, just played at a different venue.

I mean for heavens sake if the ANZAC Day game was a Roosters home game, what was round 19 2004?

2. The fact that there is no permanent contract for Saints to host the game at the SFS does not mean that in the past we haven't held it there. It means in the future we may not hold it there (see 2008 at ANZ). Indeed I would guess ANZ is a serious possibility this year and will probably remain so as long as it's a useful bargaining chip to get a better deal out of the SCG Trust.

3. The construction works are highly unlikely to result in a change of game distribution. All the evidence points to a all parties (Saints, the WSGT, the state government) being in favour of a program that will not prevent 6 games per year being played in Wollongong. It is hardly in Saints interest to force hard terms in this period as Saints are clearly the second largest beneficiary of this funding (after the trust itself).

Now imagine if the NRL really, I mean REALLY promoted the Dragons v Parra rnd 1 game and the Dragons v Dogs rnd two game. How many do you think those games could potentially attract through the gates at Homebush with absolute fever pitch promotion to start the season?

I dread to think how many potential fans will be turned away from those two matches and potential for them to be promoted as absolute blockbusters.

Both clashes happen again in 2010, one of them at ANZ.

For the first time the ANZAC Day game has come out of Wollongong's distribution, directly and exclusively related to the construction works. Glad we've gone back to SFS instead of ANZ.

5 x WIN Stadium
6 x WIN Jubilee Oval
1 x Sydney Football Stadium

The anticipated split has occured - Wollongong games in first half of season, Kogarah games in second half.

WIN Stadium Wollongong will host the Mercury Challenge pre-season feature match (February 20) and five home games, one less than the usual regular season allocation due to the beginning of the construction process; those being the Bulldogs (Round 2), Cowboys (Round 3), Broncos (Round 5), Sharks (Round 8) and Raiders (Round 11).

WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah will host six home games beginning with a return clash against the Eels (round 12), West Tigers (Round 16), Panthers (Round 17), Titans (Round 20), Sea Eagles (Round 23) and Rabbitohs (Round 26).

The traditional ANZAC Day clash against the Sydney Roosters in Round 7 will be played at the Sydney Football Stadium – a Dragons home game in 2010.
