NRL 'Leadership'

The Telegraphs campaign to have Smith removed after he wronged 'News Ltd' was about as blatant an agenda as I have seen from a media outlet in recent years.

Barry, clarify, are you actually saying that Newspapers don't have any agenda apart from selling newspapers?

No, I'm saying that is their dominant agenda (making enough money to survive in a contracting market). Particular newspapers go off individual campaigns, but not because of a long-term conspiracy to destroy a particular sport. Some journos just don't like rugby league. Some journos don't like any sport that is not AFL. Some journos don't like people that didn't go the right school.

There can also be (are) other agendas correlated with the newspaper owner's personal wealth or ambitions. But, given the fact that Fox have secured the long-term pay tv rights for the NRL.......why would they want to go out of their way to reduce the value of those rights?

I have no time for News Ltd.

I just think you've got the wrong end of the stick in terms of the reasons for what they do.

Every media outlet has an agenda whether it is political or otherwise. This is not exclusive to one publication, that is the business model for journalism in the 21st century and honestly they can do what they want. It's your choice to read or watch.

The only journalism that isn't meant to have biases is the abc as it is funded by the tax payer. Of the dozen give or take commentary shows om the abc all of them are left leaning. Go figure.

Listen, I just want people to stop buying the Telegraph and cancel their Fox subscriptions because of the agenda I am highlighting... Am I asking too much?

Well, I don't buy the Telegraph or any of their newspapers. But I'm not cancelling my Fox subscription because some people (including me) don't like the Murdoch press. For starters, Foxtel is only 50% owned by Murdoch....but more importantly....I like enough of the product to want to buy it.

It's up to you f**kers who keep buying his papers and clicking on the online articles to discipline that shit.

And you wonder why people think some of you chaps have a persecution complex? :)

Do you think the Murdoch press went easy on Essendon during the drug scandal?

They write what they think merkins will buy (and a bit of what the particular journalists own prejudices are). In a one (or two) team town, the local arm of any media network is always going to be positive towards that team. Coz locals pay for that coverage.

Historically, the AFL have done a much better job of not alienating female fans, and this flows through to the greater political power they seem to wield.

They do in Mexico otherwise they lose their AFL media accreditation and dont get the official MRs or get an invite to pressers, they actually get locked out of official pressers down there.

When Vlad was in charge he really did control what the media wrote about the AFL and would not allow any negative publicity and he is a Bombers fan to boot.

Different in Sydney, the journos can write what they like as the AFL have less control in Sydney.

Lol murdoch is out to get the eels..... i have heard it all.

The only people that would believe this are the same ones that believe money grows on trees powered by the goodness of peoples hearts. All mainstream media in Australia has an agenda.

I wouldn't say he is out to get them, but he makes a lot of money out of them due to the size of our fan base

Yes journalism today is about money I agree. That is how buzzfeed exists. It is about clicks, drama and outrage over quality and truth... and don't people love it.
