Good luck with the Hawaiian government funding a football stadium that suits rugby league dimensions and then either some private investors maybe with help from government funding an NRL team for a sport that is foreign to them where players have to fly 10 hours each way to play.

It get its nice to dream and have future plans, but lets get refs and touchies calling blatant forward passes correctly before we concur the rest of the world.

Hawaii is actually building a new 25k stadium with a field big enough to host soccer and rugby.

NRL team? Probably not in our lifetimes, but an NRL game might be worth a shot.

I know it’s off the wall thinking but jeez what a good way to get into the American market

If Vegas ends up being a huge success down the track who knows

Step one is ensuring Vegas continues after the first five years

Las Vegas economy is tanking badly they will be desperate for any tourism they can get

Pretty far fetched for a Hawaiian NRL team. But we said something similar about a PNG team in the comp.

But geez, a 9 or 10 hour flight from Honolulu to Sydney. Or when Bears come in, Honolulu to Perth-17 hours by plane.

Hawaii would have to play their home games in blocks of three or four at a time. The same with a block of playing away games three or four at a time. Set up base somewhere in Australia.

As for the team traveling to Hawaii, they would need to be scheduled to play on a Thursday, and then play in Hawaii on a Sunday, 10 days later. And have a bye the next week.

With timezone in the winter, on the east coast of Australia, Hawaii is 20 hours behind. Hawaii at 6pm local time is 2pm on the east coast (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne). Early Sunday game.

But yeah, not going to happen anytime soon.

It’s a ludicrous suggestion and the comparison to PNG makes no sense IMO. PNG is right on Australia’s doorstep, it has 10 times the population and rugby league is already the number 1 sport there.

In short, the time zone and travel distance mean it's not feasible

I don’t think time zone or flight time completely kill the idea, other competitions have made it work with worse for both. It would need a lot of planning to minimise the impact for sure but doable if the rest was in place, which is a long way from being the case.

Time zone is essentially 4 hours difference, so an 7pm kickoff in Honolulu Friday night fills the Saturday 3pm slot in Australia, 6pm Saturday is 2pm Sunday in Australia etc.
