Feleti isn't eligible for nz mate,he has to live there for 3 years upto his selection for nz..you can't live there for 3 years then leave the country and still qaulify via residency...cos you ain't resident there anymore.

I never considered this...

I always just assumed once you gain residency you kept it.

I see it the same way ' spud does i.e. you have to have resided in the country you are being selected for in the three years prior to selection. If you haven't been selected for your country of residence and you then leave you lose the right to selection and would have to start the three years residency process again. However if you are selected and then leave you'd still be eligible for your country of residence even after you left.

In most countries, having a Grandparent give you no more rights than a tourist. Australia, USA, Samoa, Tonga, and many others, all require a Parent for you to gain citizenship or work. Otherwise you need to apply just like any other non-citizen. No idea why having a grandparent should give anyone the right to represent a county, if they are a second generation of another.

there's a forum topic about Ben Barba and his heritage.
He's quoted as being indigenous, PNG, Fiji and Afghan.

Spinner, I agree with you on most of your points, but i disagree on this one.

We've had two special cases where two of our players (of Peruvian and Chilean descent) has helped with finding more about themselves and their heritage.

We had one player (Jye Sommers) who found out later in life that his Grand father was Peruvian. So to help him represent him and his heritage, he played for both Peru and the Latin Heat which helped him discover more about himself and his Latin American heritage.

We also had another player (Eddie Wegener) who's Grand father came from Chile and decided to represent the Latin Heat shortly after his passing. He felt it was a great way to make him proud.

Yes there are times where it seems players take advantage of the grandparent rule, however it can also be a way for players to represent where they come from and their family

It's an interesting topic and one that the NRL is interested in too. They are making an effort to identify if players qualify for developing countires through heritage.
The Trbojevic brothers have Serbian heritage and have been sounded out by Serbia who are trying to qualify for the RLWC.
.
they also have Nick Cotric from the raiders too??

I cant be assed to start a new thread, so ill ask here:

Is there anyone in the NRL/U20s/Cups that would qualify for a Chinese WC team??

After the Brits, Chinese is the biggest migrant group to Oz. Im wondering if they could cobble together a decent China team.

Ive seen how the locals here went nuts when the bloke made the NBA, i think a chinese team in the RLWC would at least give us a short burst of press.

My mrs works in busineas development and commercial relationships with a major MMA promotion and one of reasons theyre finding it so tough to break.into the Chinese market is the lack of globally recognisable local fighters.

If a bunch of.chinese heritage players.decided.theyd rather play for.China and Jack Ma got stuck in...footy would have a shot...a small shot...but a shot nunthe

Don't know if it would appeal to the Chinese having them represented by people who have Chinese grandparents.. I'm sure there's tonnes of players with grandparents and parents from different backgrounds but it would come down to them having paperwork of the GP's birth certificate etc.. and of course the approval to field national sides representing that certain country.

are they actually all confirmed Serbian descent or just a random bunch of Slavic sounding names?
Tom, Jake, are Serbian/Croat, Cotric has Serbian heritage, Jason Muranka has played for Serbia, Opacic apparently has Slovenian heritage and Serbia once tried to name Stefan Ratchford in their 2009 squad.
