Triple MMM 2UE AND 2SM are curently bidding for 2005 nrl radio rights after 2GB decided to axe the exclusive part in there contract. Who will get them ?

NRL has been living in a cave since 2000 as far as radio is concerned.

this was confirmed in the papers late last week. I'd love to see Triple M get broadcasting rights.... they started AFL commentary for the 1st time last season as a one off for the big Swans games and whilst i hate AFL the commentary was very informative and also pretty humourous, similar to when Roy & HG do Origin. Triple M already has Rabs and a few other league 'experts' on board for the Saturday morning Legends show so i spose they'd be the commentators... Look forward to it

ok, the only times i'd seen it reported it hasnt had confirmation from 2gb but rather speculation from journos. didnt see the herald on the weekend, have 2gb said they dont want it now?

I hope Triple M gets radio rights for the NRL. They cover a game of AFL every week in Melbourne and it makes it hard to escape being exposed to AFL, the NRL need to create a similar atmosphere in Sydney(and Brisbane even)

The more stations that get the rights, the better!

Why couldn't 2sm and Triple M both get the rights?

Different bands, hence different markets.
However if it came down to 1 station, I would have to go MMM as they have a greater market share over 2sm and therefore will get more exposure for League.

You can be sure though that 2GB will state that they get 1st choice of the call of the game of the round. Surely that will be in their contracts.

2ue, 2sm and MMM all need to get the rights. The more our game is showcased, the more popular it will get.

The 2GB exclusivity deal has been a blight on our great game for years now. Why give coverage to rival codes when these media outlets were willing to give valuable exposure to RL? AFL on MMM in Sydney just seems wrong.

I just wonder how much pull News LTD had on pushing the NRL towards "exclusivity". Take out as many media rivals as possible so more people get Pay TV.
