NRL Rd 23 2022 - General Non-Warriors Thread

The raw emotion will be on display in Townsville, with the Cowboys at home for the first time since Paul Green's death. The Warriors will be the perfect 'opponents', respectful and obliging, as the points get piled on against them! Everyone loves the Warriors!

Tonight though, Souths v Penrith. It should be a 'wow' but, in effect, it's a bit of a dud due to all the Panthers' injuries. I really wanted to see exactly where Souths stood right now.

Friday, as mentioned, NQ have the game sewn up. Then it's a traditional 'biggie', Brisbane at home to Melbourne. This year feels like it really matters again, with both sides looking at top-four finishes.

Saturday, Parra, oh Parra, have another test of their 'real deal Eels' status. The Bulldogs are playing well and picking a winner here is hard. I'm going Bulldogs as I think Parra are not mentally up for the pressure of ending that 36-year drought.

Manly are done, the Sharks aren't. Cronulla have it all to lose. Roosters v Tigers, one a growing premiership contender the other, well, it's just woeful.

Sunday, let's talk about the spoon. It's white-hot for the GC, the Dragons are just playing for pride, and Mad Monday. We close with de-pongiad Newcastle against a re-stickied and desperate Raiders. The Knights fans need this one though, they're great fans that deserve better.

Enjoy.

This was last year's GF of course and it would be a really good one this year too. Remember last year Mitchell might've been the difference.

6-4, Penrith early but Souths are looking the better side over the last ten minutes.

Edit: 12-all, halftime. Yeah, bring this as a GF reprise!

How good are Penrith tbh? Missing 3 of their most influential players (probably 3 of the top 4, or 5), Cleary, Luai and Fisher-Harris...

Souths continue to show a sloppiness that has been evident in easy wins, they are slick at times, but in a grind with top teams hard to see how they can back up week to week

That young fella on the wing had a Manu v Parra sort of performance, left 3 tries out there then spilt the bomb at the end

The South’s coach I’m not a fan of, showed a lack of class when commenting on him post match, Ivan certainly didn’t hang Manu out to dry all those years ago. Harper and Kosi have had those games this season too

Interesting that a few weeks from the finals we have the obstruction rule being interpreted completely differently again. The contact with the outside shoulder thing was very basic to follow, now the bunker will discretionally decide whether that player could have made a tackle or not, fraught with danger

Whoa, 60-12! Two things, the Storm are finding form at the right time, and the Broncos are taking two steps back.

As a Storm and Broncos hater I feel I've lost ten bucks but found five.

Kayo replay of Storm vs Broncos.
Penalty for Storm in play the ball that would have been called a mistake by Warriors player.
How was Grants try allowed with runner preventing defender coming across clean?
Hughes try was magic, full speed, stops on a dime to turn right and swerve in to score.
Discarded Tiger with a great run away to crack 60.

The Eels are so weird, don’t place much stock in them pummeling the Dogs, but with their pack firing and Moses and Brown doing same they are imo the biggest threat to the Panthers. But could easily exit quickly…

be good to avoid the Storm (especially) or the Chooks making another GF

In a season that's stubbornly going on too long for us warriors fans I'm starting to eye the finals, as a rugby league-lover. It should be a good series, and I have no second team anymore.

Currently, the Sharks are pummeling Manly at Brookie. Johnson should've stayed. He'd have had a shot at a premiership.

They didn't want him, smart team.
Rainbow shirt has divided the team!

Seems to have hit the point where the good sides tune up for footy while the also rans button off for the last few weeks

Trent Barrett withdrew his contract offer and told Hynes he had no future, dear oh dear

I’ll probably hop on the Sharks for the finals, no players in their side that I really dislike. Can see Roosters having a good run but I wish Lodge no success. Not a Cody Walker fan and South’s are a bit flaky but will be interesting to watch. Can’t stand Queen Gutho and Moses so would be happy to see another straight sets for the Eels

40-6, Sharks. Final. A bit of pride there for Manly in the last quarter!

'An easy win for Cronulla at Brookvale'. That's hardly ever said and is only their sixth win in 41 years there.

Manly look in trouble, five straight losses after being in real finals contention before the 'jersey game'. Cronulla look good, real good. I might back them in from here.

That’s the easy media narrative, but the reality is that the squad isn’t a squad with the big depth of other clubs, and when you have a dozen players unavailable that include top liners like Trbojevic x 2, Garrick, Paseka etc you have to put too many players out there that aren’t up to NRL standard and they run out of puff eventually

Simplistic but something on it imo

Real flop of a weekend this one, Roosters look like they’ll rack up 60

Brisbane on 28, +21, Eels and Dragons left

Raiders 24, -31, Knights, Manly, Tigers

real potential there for the Raiders to win 3/3 and get to 30 pts and fix that differential up, Huge game for Brisbane next week

Nofoaluma probably talking to his manager to make his Melbourne move permanent.

This weekend shows which teams are good and which are imposters.

Warriors, Manly, Bulldogs, Tigers, Broncos you aren't up to it.
