NRL Rd 3 2026 - General Non-Warriors Thread

It's still early, I don't think most of us are in the groove yet, so to speak. However, it's relentless, the NRL season, it waits for nobody. So let's go!

Tonight, Sticky's Raiders host Ceraldo's Bulldogs. A lot to unpack here but the main point of interest is how Canberra come back from the Mt Smart drubbing last week. Another interest is the refereeing, Canberra like being grubby in the ruck but we know who the NRL want to win this year, and it's not the home team in green.

Friday, oh my! The finals have come early. Roosters v Panthers, Storm v Brisbane. Unpack that! What I can say is the latter game should show exactly where the Broncos are right now. If they don't click for a win then our worst thoughts might be true, Madge has lost the dressing room.

Saturday, three goodies. I'm in Newcastle! The Warriors are favourites, due mainly to Ponga and Brown being out. It'll be a slippery surface, pun intended. Cronulla have Redcliffe, hard to pick a winner, as the Dolphins have real speed in attack, plus decent forwards. Souths v Tigers is a Sydney special. For once it's Wests that look the better odds. But how will they go away from the emotion of Leichhardt?

Sunday, Sydney fare. Parra v Dragons. Like old school league, it's just that, unlike yesteryear, the Eels have forgotten what a premiership is. They were good last week though, but was that more about Brisbane being bad? We close with an under pressure Payten facing last-placed GC. Gee, a Cowboys loss could see a meeting of the NQ Board, nine AM Monday! Poor Todd. That's yuck in any man's books.

Enjoy!

Missed all of last weekends round, had a wee catchup on things this afternoon

Badel v Tallis last night, Tallis got owned and looked like an absolute twat. His vendettas are ridiculous

The Dogs/Xerri situation. Absolutely bizarre, Xerri played well all last season, they moved him across the park and he still played well in round 1, and now he is dropped. Ciraldo is completely untouchable in media circles but whether the decisions are correct or not, the treatment of Sexton, Mahoney and now Xerri inside the space of 12 months is starting to get a sniff about it, and add in how they handled the Galvin saga as well and it’s looking ruthless there with not a lot of job security

Came across very childish and knows more than Dr and Physio. But knows more because he played the game. You arent going to risk a longer injury with so much season left. Badel stayed very calm and seemingly professional through it all.

Huge contrast here, Raiders short turn around and NZ travel, Bulldogs last game 19 days ago.
Raiders last game a big loss.
Bulldogs a controversal golden point win.
Bulldogs a bit disrupted by Xerri being dropped and looking.
Raiders at home.
Bulldogs came from behind last time they played.

Dogs got this premiership wrapped up.
Refs in pocket. Very delayed call even really a reversal of call after called lost.
Weird to take the 2 points with they have 1 man advantage.

Yeah, couple really strange, delayed penalties. Somehow Raiders kept them out, so maybe they can take that into second half like we did last week.

Heh - as you can tell, I'm rooting for whoever plays Dogs, even if it is Sticky's Grubs

Well, he did learn from the master.

In other news, my poorly selected fantasy team DerpBuzzTallisDerp are 0-2 in Supercoach..

There is zero loyalty at the Dogs, as much as they want to play it up that they're a family club and they do welfare better than anyone. They might do loyal well when you're useful to them, I guess. That has Gus' finger prints all over it. I read Andrew Webster's lengthy article last year about Gus, saying that you never know where you stand with the guy. One day you think you're his best mate because you've known him for 20 years, the next day he basically acts like he's never met you.

I thought I read that Xerri's attitude had gone to shit, but I can't remember where I saw that

Tallis would have to be the most compromised, one-eyed knuckle head that's ever been in the media. And that's a competitive race. Guy is a f**king idiot, but Fox love him because he incites reaction.

The guy who sat out a season sooking, is having a go at Reynolds for missing a game.

How about his genius take that the Broncos wouldn't have made the GF without Walsh. Peter Sterling-level analysis, that
