NRL reviews finals format

The National Rugby League is considering changes to its finals format for the 2004 season.

The league will continue with an eight team series but may drop the McIntyre system in favour of the AFL's model, or a new system proposed by former Bulldogs coach Warren Ryan.

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley says Ryan's proposal retains the four-week series.

"There are four games in week one, the major difference is in week two there would be three games," he said.

"So it's four games, three games, two games, one game as opposed to the AFL and NRL current system where it's four games, two games, two games, one game."

Annesley says the clubs will discuss the options, with a decision to be made before the season starts.

This sounds interesting.

I'll admit to not clicking the link, so who would the third week 2 match involve?
