Yes, he would be far too old to switch codes
On the subject of AFL players playing league, of course some of them could do it and no they wouldn't get slaughtered.
Billy Slater is two foot nothing and weighed about 50kilos when he first played for the Storm but his agility and speed meant he evaded rather than just plain hit up. Anyone looking at him when he first came to the code would have thought he'd be slaughtered and yet he wasn't. He could have played either code and we all know how well he would have done either. He was the first player to incorporate AFL jumping practice to perfect catching bombs in the air so he couldnt get tackled.
Paul Kelly played ruck rover for the Swans and would have been a great Rugby League hooker - hell he even played League up until 16 years of age as he was from the Wagga region.
League players require more attributes than a neck that ends at the shoulders and the ability to take hit up after hit up.
Why would any AFL player have the skill evade a defensive LINE, something non-existent in their sport. Some might have the necessary agility and speed but none would have the Rugby League knowledge or vision to pull off anything near what would be required to succeed at any decent level.
