Serious Question.

Can some of you good folk tell me why Simply the Best isnt considered for a revival?

Personally, whenever i hear the original song on fogie radio it seriously reminds me of Rugby League. The two seem to be synonymous.

I know this barrell has probably been pushed before but wouldnt it be an idea to purchase the rights, stick with the song year in year out, and rotate singers, etc. ? Its already a defacto anthem ... I suppose you could have young bands playing it to account for demographics?
There seems to be a bit of an 80,s 90s revival atm.

This post may seem shite but the power of music can do wonderful things.

Put simply ( pardon the pun) This is Simply the Best and toughest game on the planet, shouldnt we market it as such?

I reckon the NRL will continue trying to appeal to the youth of the day. Hence why they went with Bon Jovi this year, and I believe they're in negotiations with The Who for 2013...

the purpose of the theme song would be to promote the game? This is our house has a great feel to it, really gets you ready for battle. That's My Team gets you all excited about your team. Simply the Best tells you you're watching the greatest game of all.

I'd love for it to return, but it doesn't concern me if it doesn't as i like the current song. Perhaps if you really want it to return, write a long report detailing how you'd use the song nowadays and hopefully someone at ARLC Towers will listen

I actually think that 'What you get is what you see' was a better ad than 'Simply the Best' but that song was better. It's not a bad idea but would it work today? Maybe not.

whilst we're at it - "if i could turn back time"......

i dont think the tina turner songs would appeal to anyone except the nostalgic oldies out there. I imagine the idea of the theme songs is mainly to appeal to the younger audience who may or may not be massive followers already. Whilst i dont like the bon jovi song I imagine its appeal to a younger demographic is far better than tina turner

The Turner ads were great at the time but there's no point in reliving the past.

I cringe every time "This Is Our House" gets played, whether it's an NRL Origin promo or when the teams run out of the tunnel. It is bland, generic and at it's core...bogan. It really makes my ears bleed and because it's so damn repetitive it gets stuck in my head every time. It's on par with the Raiders team song.

If the NRL is going to dig up an old band at least make sure it's a good one and not a washed up hack like Bon Jovi. Rusty Cage by Soundgarden would be my pick.

Like you said first we'd have to buy the rights to it. It was a good idea to get different people covering the song.

I also think, like other people have said, that the NRL tries to market the game to a younger audience. But, kids may like 'Simply the Best' because it is old-school.

I hate This Is Our House.

Anyways, when looking for parking at Kogarah or Wollongong, I put the windows on my car down, and crank up 'Simply the Best'. I get lots of thumbs up and smiles from Saints and oppositions fans, young and old.
