I thought that perhaps old school song mixed with an up and coming band or someone with street cred.

I also think it may have the desired effect of getting offside fans watching again. People we lost during the SL war. Might be a back to the future moment with them.

Agreed. That BonJovi song is rank

Simply the Best is without doubt the best song the league have ever used. And Tina rocks for an old bird!

I used to like the Friday Night football a few years ago (probably longer than a few). It was a bit rocky and was pretty cool.

Furthermore to my idea , the NRL could create some interest in the off season ....akin to " Whos going to sing it this year" . Or they could have a poll and ask the fans....

I reckon they should've used "I love it" by Hilltop Hoods, it's a new song, by an Aussie group, hip hop style but not the sh*tty kind. You oldies probably wouldn't like it but it'd appeal to the younger viewers. They use in on the ESPN Australia promos for sports and it sounds really good!

All Australian hip hop is s***. And no I'm not old, I've been to my fair share of Big Day Outs over the years and deliberately gravitate away from the main stage when groups like the Hilltop Hoods and Bliss N' Eso come out. How many times can you possibly listen to them call out "get your hands in the air" before you flip em the bird?

Jay-Z was the last decent rapper I've seen. Hip hop works with basketball, it certainly wouldn't work with league.

Simply the best hands down best Rugby League song ever. Needs to be revived for the ones who weren't around in the early 90s to bask in the awesomeness that was that campaign.

I, like everyone else, loved Simply the Best... back then. However reviving it now (or ever) would feel a little too Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp to me, its just plain unnecessary. Don't f**k with the classics, don't try to bring back something that worked 20 odd years ago just because it was good then. It very rarely works and almost detracts from the original to some degree.

Further to that, if there's one thing i hate more than bands or artists doing covers of songs that shouldn't be covered, its multiple bands or artists doing shitty covers of said song. Can you imagine how much you're going to hate Simply The Best by the time its been covered 4 times by bands or artists who aren't Tina Turner??

Hmmm.. do a revival with Tina singing "It still is the best!" instead of "It's simply the best!" ?

Connect with the 90s, still acknowledge everything done today as on par or better.

I cringe every time "This Is Our House" gets played, whether it's an NRL Origin promo or when the teams run out of the tunnel. It is bland, generic and at it's core...bogan. It really makes my ears bleed and because it's so damn repetitive it gets stuck in my head every time. It's on par with the Raiders team song.

If the NRL is going to dig up an old band at least make sure it's a good one and not a washed up hack like Bon Jovi. Rusty Cage by Soundgarden would be my pick.

Great pick. I love Soundgarden

whilst we're at it - "if i could turn back time"......
Cher? Pffft!
I reckon the NRL will continue trying to appeal to the youth of the day. Hence why they went with Bon Jovi this year, and I believe they're in negotiations with The Who for 2013...
The Who - awesome. Even in his 60's Pete Townshend would wipe the floor with most of the crud around nowdays.

The Tina Turner ones were great - but it wasnt just about the songs. The videos were great and sold the sport brilliantly.

That said, some good decent standard metal is the only soundtrack possible. The Trooper (Maiden), Thunderstruck (AC/DC), Bark At The Moon (Ozzy), I Wanna Be Somebody (WASP), We Cant Be Beaten (Tatts), Seek And Destroy (Metallica), Stand Up And Shout (Dio), Hole In The Sky (Sabbath), and even mellowing it down for the sooky majority - Unchained by Van Halen - any of these would be mega.

However, I reckon the best by far - and I challeng someone to come up with music that screams RUGBY LEAGUE more than this:

Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue.

Gallop, it HAS to happen!
