Yeh

English clubs are too set in their ways and won’t give up control

The French game has already shown it can be big in the south of France. In its glory days it was on the cusp of overtaking union

Catalans
Toulouse
Marseille
Lyon
Paris if they have money behind it
Then teams like Avignon etc

You could even have a club from Italy and Spain down the track

Wouldn’t take much to surpass the English tv deal either

The English have failed to develop France in the way the nrl have invested in kiwi juniors

You could argue that league in France pre super league is was at least on par with league in nz pre warriors
Haha those big rugby league cities of marseille, Lyon and Paris. There’s a very obvious reason there isn’t any ft pro clubs in France other than those being paid for by the English game.

Yeh Vichy banning of rugby league

Not that super league has covered itself in glory making them pay for everyone’s travel costs and whining they get too many travelling English fans

Catalans turnover is 13 to 14 million euros which is on par with some super league clubs

Compared to a certain club in hull which lost 1.3 million pounds last year

80 years ago. Only so long you can lay blame on the past. Like I said the only French teams that have been capable of developing a ft pro club have been because of funding from the English game. After Toulouse there is none out there even close to SL level of club.
But yeh somehow nrl is going to fun 8 others to miraculously start up lol.

you missed off “treble trophy winning” Hull club lol

Carcassonne were said (well, according to Love Rugby League) to be applying to join League One three or four years ago now and were said to be open to creating an Aude side merging with Limoux and Lezignan. It got nowhere in the end.

Resenting teams getting funding for being in superleague is weird. You either accept expansion clubs or you don't. Plenty of English teams would be nowhere without funding. Salford went broke with it.

All those cities combined still have small population. So does Albi and villuenue. Avignon and surrounding area is larger but not as passionate about the game.

The trouble for France is that English clubs seem reluctant to use French talent.
And because Catalans use expat Aussies and Kiwis.. that leaves the French at a massive deficit.

Toulouse will double the amount of French full time professionals but they could develop along with Catalans more French players if there's no fear of relegation.

Even still won't be enough, a third team is needed too.

If they can get a fully professional summer league (even a small one), that would be a start. I can see the NRL interested in it for two main reasons. 1) to further grow the international game and strengthen the player base that France can drawn on 2) the reality is if a 20 team NRL and 10/12/14 team super league is going to be sustainable, the potential base from which players can be drawn from needs to be increased. PNG will naturally be one from all the extra funding into grassroots the Australian Government will be providing, but I feel like even the supposed RL heartland of south western France has been heavily under-utilised.

Strange that the nrl chuckle at teams like Halifax as someone born there and lived in siddal the little village who have produced a conveyer belt of talent like morgan smithies , matty Nicholson, kruise Leeming, Jake connor , Jake wardle , tyler dupree , morgan gannon , gareth widdop ( amateur club king cross) etc etc Halifax is a rugby league town as opposed to football and is a hotbed of talent.

That's not definitely happening, I actually live in Huddersfield and its strange because despite being the birthplace of rl in England nobody is that bothered it leans more towards football.

He’s said he still wants to build a new stadium in hudds but what are the chances of that happening

They’ve sold their share of the stadium in hudds

Could be a rebrand on the cards when they move to Halifax

And you know it’s not a big town. England has loads of them like widnes Oldham Cumbrian clubs who aren’t in super league

Yeh league in hudds isn’t great the soccer side gets way bigger crowds in a Lower division

Yeah im aware of the ken davy purchase although there has been significant opposition from local fc halifax town football supporters who have put various obstacles in place and are now having the local council (calderdale) investigated for not following correct procedure. Halifax and hudds won't merge , hudds did it before with sheffield and it failed . It won't work in this country people will just stop going , its a cultural thing.
