NRL two conferences

f**king ridiculous idea. I could go on for pages with all the things wrong with it, but let's start with;
- guaranteed a Sydney and non-Sydney team in the GF no matter who the best two teams are,
- No Grand Finals between traditional rivals. No Rabbitohs/Roosters, Manly/Wests, Panthers/Eels or Storm/Broncos GFs. EVER!
- Massive amounts of travel for non Sydney teams and associated huge costs increase for them.
- Wayne Bennett supports it.

- Oh, and let's not forget. The talent pool isn't sustaining 16 first grade standard teams at the moment - most teams have at least 3-5 players who are out of their depth, and with some teams it's closer to 10-12. How do they honestly think they can magic up another 60 players without lowering the overall standard.

f**king ridiculous idea. But this is the N(SW)RL, so it will probably happen.

The other rule is they sent the shit refs to adjudicate the outer-Sydney conference and the good refs to the Sydney conference.

What I really hate is that in that system it will always be a Sydney team vs a non Sydney team. Needs a cross over. Also no reward for finishing higher on the table.
What better way to promote the rivalry between Sydney teams than to ensure they can never meet in a Grand Final again... sigh.
There are some quality grand finals, e.g. 2015, that would have never happened under this dumb proposal. Would the NRL compensate the non-Sydney teams for their far higher travel costs? Newcastle, as an example, goes from being able to access the majority of their away games via a ~2 hour drive to Sydney to suddenly needing to fly far more often.
"The alternative system could see the top four teams in each conference ranked 1-8 (based on competition points) in a combined finals series identical to the current playoff structure."

Sydney conference vs non-Sydney conference but the Grand Final stays in Sydney ffs, the non-Sydney teams have enough of a disadvantage before they rolled this shit out

I suspect if this thing gets up it'll be a top 8 with 4 from each conference.

Conference systems only really work when there is a roughly even geographical spread of clubs between them.

Every conference system I can think of has some imbalances, they are inevitable, but so long as there are 9 clubs in Sydney it will be basically impossible for the NRL to achieve a conference system that is even close to fair.

If we are honest fair isn't even part of the equation though. The only reasons we are talking about conferences is because some people are living in the past and a Sydney conference is a great way to make sure that there's always a Sydney team in the GF...

Whereas I think it's much more likely that it will be like the NFL - conference finals series and then the two winners play off in a "Super Final" or some other Americanism of a name.

Aaand the GF will always be in Sydney, further disadvantaging the non-Sydney teams.

Tell me has it disadvantaged The Melbourne Storm playing the Grand Finalin Sydney?

Leaving aside Vlandys desire to go back to a nswrl comp circa 1988, if we ever got to twenty clubs it would make some sense. Would need a more equal split but with some focus on big crowds rivalries it could look something like

Arthur Summons Conference

Panthers
Eels
Bulldogs
Wests
Knights
Broncos
Titans
Cowboys
Brisbane2
Qlnd5 or Png

Norm Provan conference

Dragons
Rabbits
Sharks
Roosters
Sea-Eagles
Raiders
Warriors
Storm
Pirates
Adelaide or NZ2
