Nrl website

Been looking at cricinfo.com a lot this summer, it's easily the most impressive website for stats of any sports I have come across.
The Nrl website is terrible in comparison, with companies such as sports data and Nrl stats providing info to the Nrl, why can't they provide more interactive stats and info?

In order to get full stats you have to pay for one of those fantasy league helpers... It's just a way for NRLstats to make some extra money by making people have to pay for them.

It's not much, just 5 bucks a month or so not that I'd bother subscribing. But it does seem like it'd take away the fun of it a bit though. Plus I don't see why stats like that shouldn't be free. But I guess everyone wants to make a quick buck and this is just another way.

Sports data.com.au is easily the best. Services everyone from the clubs, media, bookies and punters. Amazing data/vision that they pump out.

And I have complained to the NRL about their poor online presence and resources and the reply was that they are well aware of that and are working on a complete overhaul to be revealed around the time of the new TV deal.

Like the TV deal, I presume that there must be some sort of contract between the NRL and some company who does their web stuff (Telstra, perhaps). Anyway, I figure that the NRL is simply stuck with the current rubbish until that contract ends and then (hopefully) we will see huge improvements to the NRL's online presence.

What I would love to see is the NRL introduce a paid subscription to stream/pipe live games over the net to customers anywhere in the world (including NZ and Australia). And that shitty streaming service they have with Sentanta at moment?! Don't make me laugh! Anyhow, the traditional TV model is going the way of the Dodo and I'd dearly love to see the NRL be trail blazer by imbracing the internet as the future.

And their home page says they are partners with nrlstats.com (which I presume means they get their stats from nrlstats.com). So, if nrlstats.com is free, why would an individual, like you or I, who only want to use the data for recreational purposes, pay a company like Sportsdata.com.au??? Furthermore, it does not look like sportsdata.com.au provide services for individuals anyhow.

They have their own "trackers " who do the stats, they do a lot of stats that are keys to who wins/loses that nrlstats don't provide.
And I can confirm they definitely provide a service to individuals, you just have to pay truckloads for it.

Can someone show me these commercial stats services?

I get free stats from http://nrlstats.com/ and I've never heard of anyone having to pay before.

NRL stats used to have a whole online database with stats of every player averaged out so metres per game, tackles, try assists, kicking metres etc. So if you wanted to find out how many tackles Nathan Hindmarsh total and averaged in 2010 or how many tries Jonathan Thurston set up you could look them up. Now they keep the stats hidden and you can only access stats from an individual game.

If you go to http://dreamteam.nrl.com/ and click where it says Assistant Coach that's the program you can subscribe too which gives you in depth individual player stats.

That's right. Because some business interests were using the nrlstats.com free stats for commercial reasons, ie making money out of on-selling free data, or, in other words, being a real bunch of pricks, and they had to remove the overall database from public view. But that does not mean you cannot still get access. I have access to the hidden stuff. Pop them an email request.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

Dreamteam assistant coach is $20 for a whole season and people are complaining about the cost?! Geez!

Okay. I just checked out Dreamteam Assistant coach and it's ok. It's geared to give only information that is relevant to playing the Dreamteam game and nothing more. To a stats freak like myself, that's not good enough (for example, it lists total kick metres, but not how many times that player kicked the ball, etc.).

Best bet I guess will be buying Big League throughout the year... that won't be anything near instant though.

The answer is no to all of them (except missed tackles) because, like I said earlier, the Dreamteam Assistant Coach detailed individual (you've queried a number of non-individual stats) stats are only those relevant to the game itself.

But what I've also discovered about the Dreamteam Assistant Coach is that the stats are displayed as Dreamtime points (as opposed to the real stats). So, in other words, they are pretty much useless to anyone apart from those playing the Dreamteam game.

As for most of your stat queries, those are some pretty complicated stats you're looking for. Nrlstats.com has some of them avaialable for free, but I'm not sure about the rest. Nrlstats.com, or some other paid for service, will have these stats, but I'm not sure how you'd go about getting them.

Oh, and you can trial the Dreamteam Assistant Coach stats for free (for a couple of weeks or something). It took me less than a couple of minutes to setup a Dreamteam account, private competition and team so that I could check.

No prob.

And I'm more than happy to help with stat requests (from the nrlstats.com hidden free stuff).
