SOO should be played on a stand alone weekend giving the players plenty of recovery time, if people are concerned about player welfare.Rugby League is a case of the tail wagging the dog so nobody should be surprised to see a club competition yield its stick.
This one-off mid-year test should never have been played a half a world away. It was silly to organise it in the first place. The short turn around games need to be played just down the road so you dont piss-off the puppet master.
Any whats this 3 weeks insurance excess thing about ?
Still changing time zones. Also with Denver being in the Rockies, it’s more taxing through less oxygen at higher levels.
The other problem is lack of recovery time.
Super (sic) Rugby has similar travel, but games are scheduled with appropriate breaks for travel.
Well you won't see Penrith playing rugger. The team got booted out of the comp. The NRL hasn't cottoned onto the fact that "Play Union, see the world. Play League, see Penrith" isn't intended as a complement to League
No reason can't do a 3 match series in various Nth American locations at the end of the year. I think the players will get their way an it will go ahead this year and changes will be made for next season
The bloke putting millions of his own cash into it seems to think that running against the NFL and NBA the first time round isn't such a good idea but what does he know I guess, Blake Solly thinks it's dumb
Why does it need to be a big game on? Toronto and Hawaii could host a game each for starters with zero NFL influence in the way. Pick a 30k seater and build it from that. When he brought the MLB out here it was an extended over more than a week for a reason
Toronto isn't in the US and Hawaii may as well not be for all the notice it would attract
Dead set the bloke has the Denver Broncos promoting the NRL and over here we're upset because it affects half a round of suburban footy

If you are talking about officials from those heavily affected clubs, of course they are. It’s their job to protect the best interests of their club. It’s their fiduciary responsibility in some cases.
If the match had minimal impact on said clubs I doubt we’d be having this discussion and all and sundry would be fine going to the Rockies. It’s a great part of the world.
'Heavily affected' pfft, clubs are barely affected unless there are major injuries to come out of the game. They all get their players back the next weekend, it's the clubs that have come out with this 'oh we can't play those players because they will have only got off the plane 2 days before' rubbish. As said many times, clubs (including the Warriors) have been perfectly okay with playing players that have been involved in the ANZAC Test only the night before. It's hypocritical garbage.
Ahh yes a 2 hour flight over one timezone compares to a 20 hour flight. To play a game in attitude.
Kearney has conceded his guys will play, Burgess bro's and Graham said they will play. They will field two decent enough teams. Hopefully plan better to get everyone on side and play more games next year
Yes it does indeed when it's the day after compared to a week later. Use your brain.
And no one has yet pointed out to us what exactly is so damaging about a long flight other than jetlag, which is nothing compared to recovering from a game of high intensity rugby league.

So every single player that plays Origin will back up for their clubs then?
You are assuming no player will get a knock or strain a muscle. Then to put them on a plane. The Wolfpack don't play in England every 2nd week for a reason.

The Warriors have been supportive of those matches. To say they’re perfectly okay is very naive and very incorrect.
You use the Warriors example here. They play in Townsville and Cronulla on either end of this trip. The last update from the club is for those players selected the Warriors will not select them for either match, to give the Kiwis players a chance to recover. They are putting welfare at an optimum.
To say that’s not heavily affected is wrong.
