And then there were two.
Promoted after a successful season in the 2nd league, aussies1st and his Very Green Men set out to make a splash in the big league - and boy have they delivered. Sitting on top of the table with only 4 losses through the season, teams were taught from very early on in the year to fear the Very Green Men and the power that their squad contained. As they went through the first six games of the year without a loss, game seven saw them suffer their first hiccup, to the very same side they face here in the Grand Final. The Monk City Oranges.
Big games from Antonio Winterstein, Simon Mannering and (then) Captain Nate Myles enabled the Oranges to down the GreenMen 93 - 74 and cement themselves as a force in the competition.
The next time the two sides faced was during Round 16, where the Green Men blew the Oranges off the park in a 95-43 demolition infront of a packed house at Canberra Stadium. With Eagles stars Brett Stewart and Jamie Lyon having massive games.
The sides did not face off again till the second week of the finals after the Oranges knocked off second place getters the Rhinos with a solid performance 95-65. The Oranges halves pairing Gareth Widdop and Mitchell Pearce both had strong performances on the day, and were determined to bring the pain the following week to assure their team a spot in the Grand Final.
However, the occasion got the better of the Oranges and the Green Men put in a performance of a lifetime to wipe out the Oranges 114-58. The Green Men advanced to the Grand Final and once again the Oranges were forced to fight for their season against the in form Suspects who were led by superstar Ben Barba.
Determined to make up for last weeks apauling performance, newly appointed Captain Mitchell Pearce led his team around the park in style putting in a massive 38 point haul to down the Suspects and set up a rematch for the ages between the two great rivals.
And here we are.
