Good win and great video. Boys look liker they've got plenty of gas in the tank coming over the top of the chooks like that.
It is noticeable how radically different our undergraduates are in this new era where we scout Footballers over Athletes. There are a number of guys that are naturally high output players compared to our past of being flat track bullies.
After a rough start to the season we have become specialists at rolling over the top of sides and scoring the match winner in the last second of the game. As you say, this is a fitness thing as much as a desire thing. You can be desperate to run down teams all you like, but it is substance less without the motor to deliver.
This is one of the main things I like about our pretty tradesmen Aussie cheap halves no one else wanted...they try hard and compete till the end. They seem to be forming a combination too. But yeah those two boys while simplistic in their ability to set plays, do pinch Try's by virtue of being surrounded by so many threats that no one is watching them as possible strike players, which has been bagging them sneaky Try's of late.
Big change from our old model of trying to create local Halves for the NSW cup side in the assumption that this is fundamental to having a long term competitive NRL side. We used to go all in on guys like Carlos Tuimavave, Tuimoala Lolohea, Pita Godinet, Lance Hohaia.....all of whom have a running game in common, all being stand off hopeful's, none having the organizational nor kicking games to be good enough foils for a Seven at the Warriors.
Which meant they all ended up being utility guys that were too hard to fit in a single position due to (probably the clubs fault) not having a skills coach to round our their deficits and keep them as halves.
CHT is the latest half under threat of becoming the dreaded 14 Jack of all trades, however there is slither of hope that he may make it as a half should his combo with TMM continue to work. In this regard Johnson's absence is a blessing in disguise.
As I have said before, I like what McFadden and the Coaches have done. Have four NRL level halves. Two NSW cup place holders that probably will never make the top side permanently, while grooming teenage sensation halves below them. It means there is depth for the NRL without looking at those cup halves, and it means the Kids underneath the cup halves do not have to worry about being blocked by people ahead of their pathway to reserve grade. Jack Thompson for example should and will replace Ben Farr as soon as he is ready for Cup.
