NSWRL SHOW TOPS RATINGSThursday, 14th May 2009
Top viewer ratings after the first eight rounds of the 2009 NSW Cup has seen the NSW Rugby League Show on Fox Sports elevated into a prime-time Wednesday night timeslot of 5.30pm.

Fox Sports has confirmed the switch – from 5pm – after Sunday's NSW Cup clash between North Sydney Bears and Shellharbour Dragons provided another ratings boost.

In a sign of the popularity of the NSW Cup competition, the NSWRL Show – which incorporates a match of the round with highlights from both the NSW Cup and Bundaberg Red Cup – has recently doubled the ratings of the Queensland Cup's equivalent television show.

As a result, starting from next week Fox Sports have moved the NSWRL Show to a 5.30pm starting time where it will stay for the remainder of the season.

NSWRL General Manager Geoff Carr said matches involving the NSW Rugby League's foundation clubs including North Sydney, Newtown, Balmain and Western Suburbs had provided the best ratings.

"The NSW Cup competition is the only comp in the sport that gives viewers the chance to see foundation clubs in action every week," Carr said today.

"The NSWRL Show has done a terrific job of showcasing not only these teams but all clubs playing in both our elite competitions."

Mr Carr also acknowledged the ever improving standard of play in the competition and the excellent work of the NSWRL Show's production crew Power Productions for the show’s positive results.

Now we just need some FTA coverage. ABC, ONE, who cares. It's good footy and deserves good coverage.

Wow they're just realising this now? Maybe if they were prepaired to give the NSW Cup coverage a few years ago, it may have helped to prevent the shambles it's in now.

They should do a double header with the Bundy Cup game of the round, that would be nice.

There is no Qld Cup show this season. There is only one game shown on Saturday arvo. They don't show highlights from other games. They had a show a few seasons ago but for some reason, it was canned. Just shows how stupid this article is when they are making up there is a Qld Cup show.

You'll find that what the article is talking about is on Fox. They show the NSWRL show from 5 to 6 and then they show the Qld Cup from the previous Saturday. So while it's not a wrap up show from teh QC, but it's still a show as such.

So..why would the viewers of the live QLD Cup at 2pm on Saturday on the ABC, which is free to air, re-watch it on Fox Sports on a Wednesday night. Whereas the NSW Cup supporters have not had a chance to watch until the Wednesday night. Good enough explanation?

Indeed!

Anyone know the average figures for QLD Cup Free to air?

Would not surprise me if they out rate the Sydney Club Rugby Union shown by the ABC in NSW.

If teams like Balmain, Wests, Norths, Newtown & Cronulla were featured by the ABC on Saturday afternoons in NSW interest in the competition would sky rocket.

I can't find any figures, but i remember reading in the courier mail a few years back that it easily beats the AFL which is shown on channel 10 at the same time as the QLD Cup.

Surely, the fact that there are TWO friggin' excellent second tier competitions is something to celebrate.

Exactly, well said.

The more that watch both comps the better. Now all we need is for more peopel to get our tot he respective games.

Come on people it's good footy, the more support it gets, the better it will get as well.

Yes its a pity there is no live NSW cup on ABC as well as Qld Cup. Both are good viewing. I'd love to be able to tune in to my beloved Bluebags occasionally. Otherwise an afternoon at Pizzey Park watching the Burleigh Bears is an enjoyable day. It would be good to have a playoff between both premiers at seasons end (bit like world club challenge).

Yes very true Oxenham

The ratings of the Queensland Cup RL makes it the leading Saturday arvo second tier sport in Australia. It beats the live AFL telecast every second week on average.

Here's the ratings from last week.

Through my work comitments as I travel to sydney on sunday nights ive been able to enjoy some Ringrose Park Sundy arvo footy and I love watching NSW Cup

As a Parra junior with Fairfield City, Cabra and Fairfield RSL I got to play plenty of footy on the Wentworthville Magpies dunghill and attended plenty of Magpies games back when junior "A" grade footy meant something

I also never miss the Fox sports coverage and wouldnt put the state cup in front of the Qld cup which I also love watching

What has made me laugh though is those douche bags on 2SM going on about having the premiers of each comp have a challenge playoff and carrying on like they are in touch with the State cup as well as shoving their opinions on the state of the comp to anyone desperate enough to listen to them, and id bet none of them has never even attended a State cup game - especially that twerp Robertson

Id also bet the rest of them Hughes, Geyer, Papworth and Tunks have never either yet they give us their "expert" opinion on it

TBF I don't thik it takes an expert to see that a champions game between the NSW cup winner and the Q'land cup winner would be popular.

The NSW cup on fox is always a must watch for me, it's a great standard.. Currently the Bears are playing Newtown.. Love watching both these clubs running around.

It does seem a better standard then the QLD Cup i watch on a Saturday most of the time (although the Bears are giving Newtown a flogging in this one)
