Brilliant win 5 tries to 3 over last year's grandfinalists and a team that beat us 3 times last year I think - and gave us a beating each time, although we lifted and played our best against them.

They named a strong side and played at home, so this was a massive win.

Any details on the try scorers Billy?

Tries: J Mantellato, M Filipo, C Adams, W Schillings
Conversions: J Mantellato 4

Good result for Mantellato - 4 from 5 including a penalty goal I assume.

We will have a strong side this year.

From memory we had Stig, Roberts and Laurie out and to beat a very strong side away is a great effort

No Pete Mata'utia either, so 4 blokes with first grade experience.
Wonder how Kyle O'Donnell went

Final try was a 90 metre intercept try by Marvin Filipo. Apparently the Vulcans would have scored if Marv didn't go for the intercept and race 90 metres to break the 18 all scoreline.

Since when has Filipo been quick enough to score a 90m intercept try?
Always been an outside back. We picked him up as a centre from the local comp and he regularly plays centre and i've even seen him play wing in NSW cup.
He can play second row because he is made out of cement.
In this game he played 5/8.
Also in the game, Rochow played a very solid 80 minutes at lock and Tui and Sau played strongly.

1. Kevin Naiqama
2. Josh Mantellato
3. Michael Nate
4. Siuatonga Likiliki
5. Daniel Phillips
6. Scott Briggs
7. Adrian Davis
8. Evarn Tuimavave
9. Chris Adams
10. Kyle O’Donnell
11. Marvin Filipo
12. Zane Tetevano
13. Robbie Rochow
14. Mitch Williams
15. Warren Schillings
16. Ethan Cook
17. Daine Laurie
18. Rodney Mason

Mate moves from wing to centre to replace Sau
Phillips in on the wing (regular in NSW cup at the end of last season)
Scotty Briggs returns - presumably got injured in the last trial
Filipo moves from 5/8 to second row
Cook goes to the bench
Laurie comes onto the Bench

Shaun Boss and Rod Mason dropped.

They play Newtown at Lyle Peacock Oval, Toronto.
Newtown had a very good win this week, as did we.
Should be a good game.

I'd have dropped O'Donnell and kept Mason.
