He wont make it but if he played for the roosters, you'd be measuring up Josh Dugan for the #1 spot already
the guy is a stud with green googles firmly on

1. Dugan
2. Hayne
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Morris

pearce will not be halfback , he has no creativity in games like state origin.

Finch will be a roughie for halfback , basis of no plans Bellamy refusal to give game plans against smith, inglis, slater . and the rest of the game

Finch will know how to play under Bellamy, knowing there are no pre-game plans

As much as I'd like to disagree with that, I couldn't lol. Played out of his skin today.

Curious as to why Brett White is selected in the front row, what do you base his selection on?

What position will Carney play when he comes onto the field?

Why is Paul Gallen offered limited minutes? Surely he must play at least 50 in order to get through his usual workload. Picking Watmough to start over him, who is, in the best sense, an impact player rather than a sturdy defensive one is questionable.

What has Lawrence done to justify picking him on the wing?

Picking White and Lawrence are pretty common decisions done with little foresight and without realizing NSW have much better and more realistic options up front and out wide.

Why does our halfback have to be creative?

With the likely selections of Farah and Hayne in the side, we are brimming with creativity and picking a genuine organizer in Pearce makes more sense than picking a Mullen or a Wallace at halfback.

So far (after round 4) I'd like to see a squad selected from:

Fullbacks - Hayne
Wingers - B. Morris/K.Gordon/Ferguson/Goodwin/Dugan
Centres - J. Morris/Scott/Lawrence/Thompson/Lyon
5/8 - Finch/Bird/Carney
Halfbacks - Pearce
Front Row - Douglas/Tolman/ ???? A problem position for us - Cross/Logan/Galloway/Weyman/Tilse maybe
Hooker - Ennis (and probably captain)
Second Row/Lock - Watmough/Creagh/Patterson/O'Donnell/Laffranchi/Gallen/Stewart/Bird
Utility - Luke Lewis

One thing I have learned over the past few years is that we haven't had a set of props able to get over the top of the two old farts playing for QLD.

Barrett - we are really void of any talent if still picking him.
Soward - nice fit at the Dragons but one must be able to defend at origin level.
Carney - maybe?

Personally I wouldnt play a non kicker / passer at five eighth, if you're going to choose a young un like Pearce at halfback.

The only way Bird can play 5/8th is if someone like Kimmorley is going to play halfback and he's prepared to run all the attack. But unless anyones noticed, Noddy usually falls well short of his best when he has to do this. He is best alongside a five eighth that can control his side of the ruck in attack and allow Noddy to marshall the forwards and play his side of attack.

That means Bird can only be there for a limited amount of time at five eighth before bringing Soward or Gidley off the bench to play five eighth.

They'll probably go with Gidley in this position because it doesnt suit him all that much.

NSW's best option is to play someone at five eighth who will be there for years to come and play them alongside Kimmorley so they can learn the pressure at that level. When Kimmorley retires at the end of the year, the five eighth must be ESTABLISHED and be ready to play every f**king game for the next 5 years. Stability in key positions wins Origin series.

That means you need a PROPER BALL PLAYING FIVE EIGHTH. I reckon Soward is ready if you have Bird at Lock and a dead set genuine defender in the halves. If not, then Campese is your man. But one game and out is not an option. I know Campese played one game and struggled, but Queensland spent 3 years getting smashed by us and they stuck with their key men and they came good. We have chopped and changed every year and the lack of cohesion has killed us.

Good points. Gidley IS NOT a ball player nor is he a good kicker and Campese strength lies in his running game. Do you rate his ball playing ability?
