NSW Team 2014

Good team except for 6, 7 and 14. Josh Reynolds might have it in him to be an ok SOO player, but I'm yet to see anything to convince me that he's not another Ennis - ie semi talented but really only picked because he's seen as competitive! Surely Mullen or Carney are better options...

7, there are definitely better choices than Adam Reynolds. If he didn't play for Souffs, he wouldn't be mentioned anywhere in the media. With a decent/level-headed 6, Albert Kelly would be a beat at 7.

Not sure why Peats would get a look in...Farah is an 80 minute hooker, not worth carrying another specialist hooker on the bench. Better served for a bloke who could slot into halves or backrow too.

Todd Carney, in his previous games for NSW was a rabbit in the headlights. I just think he gets overawed by playing SOO. Josh Reynolds didn't, granted he had much more limited game time, but I think that Carney for all his talent just can't step up.

As for Adam Reynolds, well Souths are probably up in my top 3 most disliked teams, so I'm not picking him because of that. ;-) I liked the look of Adam Reynolds last year and though he's been a bit quiet to start this year off there are still a number of weeks for him to get back into the swing of things. He's got a good kicking and passing game and I can't see any other legitimate options playing currently in the 7 for NSW that are better options (Albert Kelly would be a better bench option I think).

Peats can cover the backrow. He is also a tackling machine. And with Bird in the team and able to play at 6, Peats could cover backrow rotation. Also, these days - 9's are pretty much halves that just play in the ruck. He also covers the 9 incase of injury to Farrah. I think if he gives you good coverage unlike when we carried Reynolds last year on the bench and hardly played him because he was a half.

To be fair Carney had 3 games, like all the 5/8s over the past few years. I didn't even think he was too bad either. He was the best out of Soward/Carney/Maloney imo. was unfairly dropped and Pearce unfairly kept his job. Otherwise Grail's team would be my team bar the halves and Peats is a maybe for me

you could make some money with sportsbet. they have framed a market on selections in the 17. grant is $15, carney is $3.50 and luke lewis is $3.25.

A fit Luke Lewis would make the side, but he hasn't played a game this year and appears to be at least a couple of weeks away yet, so he'll be way short of a gallop when the first side is picked. Maloney will be chosen again over Carney, who also doesn't have many games under his belt, and Tim Grant was overlooked last year by the same coach when fit and in top nick. This year his form has been down so far so I don't think any of these three are at all likely to make the side. Carney maybe if Maloney was crook, that's about it.

Stop with the 'spine' garbage. If you are going by that then both QLD and Australia weaken their spine. Inglis is the top fullback in the world and probably the no. 1 overall player. He often goes missing in the centres, but everyone knows having Inglis and Slater in the same team is better than just having Inglis, or having Slater on the wing.

Todd Carney, in his previous games for NSW was a rabbit in the headlights. I just think he gets overawed by playing SOO. Josh Reynolds didn't, granted he had much more limited game time, but I think that Carney for all his talent just can't step up.

That's just false. And throwing in Mansour and Peats after a couple of good games is just repeating mistakes from the past. NSW don't need a bench utility. We don't have someone with the quality of a Cronk or Cherry-Evans so there's no need for it. The halves and Farah can all play 80 minutes, as can most of the backrowers. Players like Buhrer and Reynolds have been a waste of a spot the last few years.

And I wouldn't put A. Reynolds over Carney or Mullen, but the hate for him is just lol@souffs garbage. He has played well (and managed many try assists) the last two years. Teams don't make back-to-back prelims with bad halves, and Reynolds clearly has the better passing, kicking and organising game compared to Sutton.

If Lewis is fit I don't know how you could leave him out.

Carney was unfairly dropped for Maloney because of the Pearce love affair. With a decent organising half inside him (I guess A.Reynolds could cover that) he would be able to play his natural running game.

Would still prefer W.Graham over Peats.

I couldnt care less if Lewis has no game time under his belt before Origin, the bloke is made for it and needs to be there

Is a good side, Carney could be there for Mullen depending on how they're traveling.

I wish they would just p*ss Josh Dugan off, his soft as butter, "our player of the series last year" blah blah blah. 0/3 origin record. Hayne or Stewart please.

The most talented halves in NSW are Luke Brooks and Albert Kelly. The selectors should for once think about the future of the side and not just make knee-jerk selections. I'd be impressed with a side like this;

1.Jarryd Hayne - Absolutely the best player in NSW. His best position is fullback. Why pick him anywhere else?

2.Brett Morris - The best overall winger in NSW.

3.Michael Jennings - The best centre in NSW.

4.Josh Morris or BJ Leilua - Josh hasn't done anything to warrant losing his spot. Proven to be far superior to anyone else in marking Inglis, however doesn't offer much in attack. BJ is still young (22), is a monster of a man, strong in defence, aggressive, decent in the air. I honestly just believe he is made for origin.

5.Semi Radradra - Could be absolutely anything. Uate in his prime with a football brain.

6.Todd Carney or Jarrod Mullen - Everyone on this forum knows they've been the best halves in NSW for the last 5 years. Unfortunately, they're both 5/8s and not halfbacks therefore only one should be picked.

7. Mitchell Pearce - Admit it, there's no one else. Pearce has a dig in defence, I will not have anyone say otherwise. I'm yet to see a single thing that Adam Reynolds offers that is superior to what Pearce offers. Brooks will be the NSW half one day, he's just not ready yet. If they throw him in too early it could f**k him for good. There's no risk f**king Pearce - he's already proven to be a sub-par origin player anyway.

8.Tim Grant - Big, plays with aggression, killed it in his only SOO game. Proven to be mentally up to the task.

9.Robbie Farah - Proven to be up to it.

10.James Tamou - Could lose his spot should someone else put their hand up.

11.Greg Bird - Picks himself.

12.Beau Scott - In career best form. He's an absolute merkin - I like that in a NSW player.

13.Paul Gallen - Picks himself.

14.Anthony Watmough - Picks himself.

15.Andrew Fifita - Picks himself.

16.Aaron Woods - deserves another crack.

17.Albert Kelly - Should be given gradual exposure, this kid will be a big part of the future NSW side. Selectors should show the same patience and perseverance they showed with Pearce. Should be guaranteed a bench spot for the entire series (unless he kills it - then to be promoted to the run on side).

Luke Brooks to get the number 7 jersey for city this year and should take Kelly's spot on the bench once Kelly is promoted to the run-on (2015 at the earliest - not ready this year) and shown patience by all as well.

Radradra is Fijian, Mullen can play half, there's plenty of other options than Pearce, Scott is nowhere near Origin quality and never was and Kelly is a waste of a bench spot.
