Having watched a replay of the tries scored, Merritt plays a big part in 3 of Qld's tries. Twice he runs in off his wing, giving Qld open space, and for the third he made a pathetic attempt to tackle Inglis that I can't help but think most other Origin wingers would have been able to execute and stop Inglis before getting to the line. Right there is 3 converted tries, 18 points which Qld might not have scored otherwise. Take 18 points from the Maroons' score tonight and you'd have a final score of 8-6, or 12-6 adjusted for the two penalty goals JT kicked.

Debating the merit of all penalties Qld received in the opening 20 is for another thread. Fact is, when a side like Qld get continual possession within 20 metres of their tryline for the opening quarter of a match, there is a good chance they will score twice. That laid the groundwork for their win tonight. NSW had a huge defensive load in that opening 20 which had them chasing their tails for the rest of the game, but I can't fault the way they hung in there during the match.

I still give NSW a very good chance at wrapping the series up in Sydney. I doubt they will be put on the back foot even half as much as they were tonight. People are quick to blame Pearce and Maloney, but nobody was writing them off after Game 1. It seems that suddenly they are expected to have lifted NSW out of the mire tonight, but you can't ignore that fact that Qld made the best with what they were given. I don't think tonights' game was a fair reflection on the ability of the Blues. Had Qld been put under the pump to the same extent, I don't think the story (especially in the opening half) would have been too much different.

I only hope that Daley and the selectors don't panic over the scoreboard and shoot themselves in the foot with knee-jerk reactions. If Qld have everything go as smoothly in Game 3 as it did in the opening 20 minutes of the game tonight, credit to them. But I don't see it happening again. Tonight was a bizarre night in quite a few regards. I don't see it repeating in the decider, and I think NSW have what it takes to wrap up the series.

Huh? All i saw tonight is what we've become used too. QLD dominating NSW in every facet of the game. If you want to be taken seriously than claim game 1 as as an out of the box experience and pray to allah you can replicate it.

Mal Admitted QLD attitude was wrong going into game 1, they fixed that for game 2 and we delivered a clinic. NSW don't have much, i think we saw their best hand in game 1 and i think QLD will easily account for it.

If that's what you want to believe then fine, but you can't deny that the glut of possession close to their tryline didn't help Qld in the opening 20, with every 50/50 call in their favour.

Even if the roles had been reversed the Maroons would have had a difficult time coming back from that. You soak up a teams' energy in defence for 20 minutes to start and post a couple of tries (coupled with a penalty goal) and you've laid a fairly solid platform and should be confident of the win. Only teams that choke or have poor discipline will lose from there.

You'd have us all believe they only got to your try line because of a ref call. This QLD team deserves more respect from you than you are giving. Fix that and we will talk.

Say what? I didn't say it was entirely because of that- I pointed out that 50/50 calls (which could have gone either way) went in Qld's favour for the opening 20 minutes. The first try they scored was off the back of a penalty given for a strip on Thaiday which just as easily looked like a knock-on.

You would also have seen that I said Qld made the best of what they had. Plenty of teams don't do that. How that isn't respect I don't know...

NSW's plan in the outside backs was the same as game one. Except for two differences the forwards did their job in game one and got in the face of Thurston so the outside backs didn't create numbers on Ferguson and Morris. Ferguson jammed in on Inglis, much like Merritt and it was easier in a 2 v 2 situation. They also had Hayne covering at the back, while Dugan got pushed off two or three tackles at the goal line last night

Thurston also obviously expected the gameplan and took advantage

And you really believe any other winger would have stopped Greg Inglis one on one at the goal line? Do you watch football?

He wasn't 1/1 with Inglis. He was the first man in defence, but he was practically non-existent, giving Inglis momentum before the other two defenders could stop him short of the in-goal...

This decision was obviously, clearly, definitely the correct call. NSW played well and got themselves back into things for the last quarter of the first half but if you want to try and imply that this particular call was incorrect then you detract from your team's efforts.

You've been whinging about so many Origin refereeing performances it's difficult to keep track.

How about you redeem yourself and actually give Queensland credit where it's due instead of trying to distort reality?

I said this in the other thread. I thought QLD did get the rub of the green in the opening 20 and everything went their way. It all stemmed from that strip on Thaiday. I thought he dropped it cold but QLD were good enough to capitalise on it and pile on relentless pressure. If it is a scrum to NSW, the momentum goes our way. But we can't be relying on that one call to go our way so we don't get blown off the park. We are not good enough to handle adversity yet so we can't compete with QLD once they get on top.

NSW were terrible, that's not the reffing that's their quitting mentality.
They all shit themselves 10 minutes in at suncorp and kept doing stupid things after that.

Hey Knightmare....do you really trust that Mitchell Pearce will lead NSW to victory in game three?
In game one he did nothing, in game two he did nothing.....in his previous 9 games - he has done nothing.
